C2 tires

What's a good tire for a c2?

johntony 01-08-2013 03:54 PM

Having just restored my '64 coupe, now I need to replace the 40 year old Michelin radials. What's a good radial tire for this car?

Too many variables/opinions on this. Do a search here, and you should find way too much info. Dennis

I'm in the same boat. I just restored my '64 convertible. I have new bolt-on knock-offs on order and need to replace my 30 year old tires.

I have a set of Michelin Symmetry's on my '66 - 215/70 - with a 1/2 inch whitewall. Love the looks, the ride & handling - and the $$$.

Thank you for your response Tom. I will check them out.

I have Firestone radials 205/75-15 whitewalls and they look great. I've heard they stopped making them but not sure.

My '66 had KH knock offs with Coker 205/75 tires when I bought her. This spring I replaced them with bolt-on knock offs from VV and Michelin Harmony 215/70 tires. FWIW

C2 Tires for '64 Corvette

Thank you for all of your inputs to previous posts.
I have checked with Michelin, they discontinued the Symmetry White Wall tire and the only White Wall tire they produce is the Uniroyal Tiger Paw (Uniroyal is part of Michelin).
The TigerPaw AWP II is available in a 5/8"WW width as a P205/75R15 and a P215/70R15. This brings up the next question - what are the pros and cons of going with the original 205/75 vs the 215/70 in view of converting to 6" knock-off rims?

Thank you for your information.
I did find a source that is advertising them on-line. I have not spoken to them to see if they are current production vs having been stored for a number of years.

A few weeks ago when I was searching tires here on the CF Cooper Trendsetters kept coming up so that's what I got. 205/75 R15.

I'm on a tight budget for my 67 convertible with factory rally wheels-bought Hancook (don't laugh) Optimo 724, 205/75-15, i put blackwall on outside, cost was $90/each, very pleased with dry and wet road grip, balanced well, reasonably comfortable.

Tires look good!
Any problems fitting them to the knock-off rims?

Well, I wasn't there when my tire guy mounted them (I must trust him a lot) but no issues as far as I know. After getting used to looking at the BFGs on my '72 (15x8 rallies) the 205/75s look tiny. Hopefully one fine day when the '64 is driveable I'll have a huge traction problem!

Here is a tread I started on the subject

I just got Potenza RE019's on mine and really like how smooth they roll. It might be that my old Yokahamas were very old.:willy:
