Breaking News: Redesigned 2014 Mustang GT To Have 455HP

Ok, this post is to make a point (and it's really going to be the 2015 Mustang GT)...

Most here seem to want to only argue over the LOOKS of the C7.

I do have some issue with the C7 looks, mostly the skinny tires/stance, but not as much of an issue as many others on here.

If we agree the C7 has some hot looks from many angles, what then holds it back? Walking the walk.

Where the C7 will have all of 450HP in 2014... (20 more than the current Mustang ...oh, but what if the new Mustang has 450HP+)...

And before somebody chimes in with 'Base car' comments, who here really wants the Base car vs. planning to wait for what you HOPE will be a higher performance model in 2015? i.e. You can't honestly be cheering for a skinny base 911 if you really plan to buy a wide-body 911 turbo.

So while we debate the 'looks' of the C7, most admit the new Viper is show-stopping gorgeous. The Viper has 640HP. So:

640HP makes the Viper GORGEOUS!!! :yesnod:

All depends on how you measure your dick; how much your brochure says your car makes vs. how fast it'll get down/around a track. Seems that's all you're concerned with.

i am guessing the LT1 will be rated somewhere in the 475 range.

Let's not forget that the 2015 Mustang is also rumored to weigh 3300-3400 pounds.
A near 700hp Shelby with IRS weighing 3400 pounds would be mad. Forget C7, that's going to go right after the Viper. I believe the C7 ZR1 might be faster though.
Whoever says GM has the Camaro to compete with the Mustang needs to understand that GM will never make a top Camaro with the same power/weight ratio as a Z06 or ZR1 Vette. I think after 2015 the Mustang would compete neither with the Corvette or Camaro directly but occupy a niche somewhere in between the two

Viper isn't that good looking. I agree it looks more like a viper but it's soft and not that scary.

skinny tires can be upgraded to wider tires. They offer a more sensible tire because the grip the new tech tires have don't require wide tires and they are more economical for the owner and on gas mileage which probably is the real reason they were changed.

Here we go...

And there's an objective response... How many free glasses of C7 kool-aid do you get for posting the C7 logo as your avatar?

Even as a C6 ZO6 owner, I figured the base C7 would be right at the performance or slightly slower than my car like the C5 ZO6 to C6. But if the hp and weight turn out true it might be a bigger gap than I thought. We'll have to wait and see if the other new tech will help the C7 get there though.

As with every thread...I'm just gonna find the need to call you an idiot.

Let me just ask you...do you think the 450lb Mustang will weigh the same as a 450hp Corvette? NOooooooooooo...therefore vette be much fasta vetteman...

IS 450hp final Corvette number confirmed by GM and SAE vetteman...Nooooooooo

Is Viper under 60k dollars vetteman...nooooooooooo

Is Corvette ZR1 or Z06 horsepower released yet...NOOOOOOooooooo

I feel like you should be put in the corner for acting like a stupid child in every thread. Are you really this stupid or is it just an act?

There's not a chance in h*ll that the '15 Mustang will weigh 3300-3400 lbs. That's almost laughable.
And if the GT500/Shelby continues the way it has for the last several years, it will be at least 2-300 lbs. more than a GT due to the bigger brakes, wheels, supercharger (or turbo or turbos), intercooler, etc., etc..
A 700 hp Shelby is so far off it's nothing but speculation at this point. My immediate reaction would be that the 662 hp of the '13/'14 cars is going to be the peak for horsepower for quite some time.
S.

Feel the need to preach this over...and OVER....and OVER....

It's not about PEAK HP...its about power delivery...it's about torque curve...

It makes LS7 torque to 4000rpm! Hello!! With a shorter gear tranny...

BTW...not gettin on your sh*t directly...just quoted your statement...

You should not start the ruler on your taint.

What's crazy is the boss 302 is already getting 444hp in 2013 out of that 5.0. The heads already have the provisions milled for direct injection, but they are leaving that card in their hat for later... The new NA special edition (Mach anyone?) they are working on with direct injection is being tested with a compression bump also... So we can only guess what that motors HP will be..

While the 5.0 engine certainly has potential, I would take the c7 any day over the mustang, and I plan to as soon as they come out! Even if the new mustang comes in at 3400lbs with IRS, they will be cutting corners somewhere or the price is going to shoot way up and become a competitor in a higher class than it currently is in...

not08crmanymore 01-15-2013 11:39 PM

APPLES and ORANGES.Different clientele shop the Stang. It wouldn't matter if the Vette had 8000 hp,Stang people are going to buy Stangs and Vette people will buy Vettes.Different cars too.Muscle car/sports car thing. So the HP thing is irrelevant between these two cars. Now if you want relevance, you need to talk Mustang/Camaro. Direct competitors.

No, IT IS laughable...

I am very cautious of Ford though...I will say...because I think there are real risk takers and power junkies over there. Ford has always been one to put cash into hp ventures others won't. The Ford GT, all these mustang variations, the Cobra concept...you name it.

Now Ford is going to be the first to dump this retro crap too....better watch'em...that's all I know....they ain't to be taken lightly...

What does the Rustang have to do with the C7?

barry1me 01-15-2013 11:41 PM

2015 Mustang is a whole new platform as well as the new Camaro (built on the alpha program). I would expect both cars to shed a few hundred pounds as they will be much smaller. Mustang is getting IRS, and a tweaked 5.1L NA motor rumored to make 550hp. I love GM, and I love vettes But Ford is dominating with the capabilities of the Coyote 5.0 motor. Its pretty sad that ford can make 430hp with a non direct injection 5.0l in 2011, and GM struggles to make 450hp with a 6.2L direction injection in 2014.
