Black plastic console by shifter looks cheap

For a few extra dollars GM should have extended the carbon fiber material over the console instead of the cheap black plastic they used. This would have given the interior a real touch of class. I really like the look of the new interior but this would have been a real nice extra. The less black plastic the better.

black shifter ?

C7envy 02-15-2013 10:15 AM

Yea I wonder why they only put carbon fiber on the dash and not by the shifter area too. It is weird. They should have an option for carbon fiber on the door handles too instead of alumnium. Even on audi they offer that on their small TT sports cars. They also now offer carbon fiber mirrors though I know GM has never made that so they probably don't want to spend money on that.

I hope APR steps up and makes lots of carbon fiber parts for this car along with katech.

Agreed. Maybe on purpose to leave room for improvement on higher-end models, as well as a great opportunity for the aftermarket.

JoesC5 02-15-2013 10:42 AM

Stunningly beautiful. GM hit a home run with the black plastic shifter surround.

BlueOx 02-15-2013 10:48 AM

Stunningly better than the even cheaper Z06 black plastic shifter surround which was a wild success.

Z06 surround(which is also used across the board in newer C6's) is not nearly as stunning as the silver painted surround found on a 2005 base C6 convertible though.

I never pay as much attention to the interior as some of you guys.

Many of us just enjoy the performance of corvettes. I'll be sure to buy the 1lt interior. I am sure the higher designation interiors will meet most enthusiasts desires and if not the aftermarket can go a step or two higher.

I prefer a z51 MRC with competition seats.

I will agree with you about that.

I'll give you a million dollars for your steering wheel. It's also stunningly beautiful with it's jewel like eloquence.

I like it. No Malibu steering wheel for me.

Wait, aren't you going to whine about the new C7's steering wheel? It's one of the few things you haven't complained about on the C7 yet.

No need to complain about the steering wheel (even though I really hate it) caravaggio will fix that.

Oh no. The C7's 14.2" diameter is an engineering marvel as opposed to my crappy Z06's 14.6" diameter wheel. GM should be proud of that accomplishment. No way will I be able to keep up with a C7 around Talladega while having to man handle my huge steering wheel.

I love the C7's steering wheel as it corrects all the problems every C6 owner was complaining about with their steering wheels.

Drop a valve, hug your steering wheel.

Without a doubt this is the best comment you've made in C7 General

Again, I haven't seen it, but hope it's not the same plastic console material as in my CTS-V. It scratches VERY easily and looks very bad in months!

GM pull your head out of your ASS. It seems that they never really finish any products, just take it so fair and figure well that's good enough. WELL it's not! :hide:

I suggest that you wait and sit in the competition seats before you order them, that is unless you plan on doing more tracking then cruising. Tom Hall from GM made the statement at the NCRS winter meet, that those seats are really designed for the track and not for normal street driving. That leads me to believe that there is not a lot of padding in them.

GoldenRod 02-15-2013 11:50 AM

Yea, if you cover things with carbon fiber, it just screams "classy."

go and look at a Boss 302 seats. They are very similar to the
2014 vette. so with the plastic looking console and copied
mustang seats, hard to see all this greatness

The seats are where I have to give GM a Gold Medal. Some C6 owners wanted a seat that was better on the track and GM has delivered. They did the right thing by keeping a base set that was good for the majority of Corvette owners, and making the track seat an extra cost option.
