1970 to 1981corvette pro stock cars

Did anyone ever campaign a 1970 to 1981 pro stock corvette. I am attempting to build a car that looks like an old pro stock c3 of those years.

mackeyred96 02-18-2013 02:23 PM

No!

bjankuski 02-18-2013 03:13 PM

That was not the answer I was hoping for but was afraid was true.

He asked for "Pro Stock" not " Stock/Super Stock" big difference.

I couldnt find any 1970 pro stock corvettes. I dont think they were used.

The John Tosilano black 69 is a Super Stocker....

John Lingenfelter also ran a Corvette in Super Stock.

Many other Corvettes were/are run in Super Stock.

Other Corvette based drag cars from that era would most likely be Competition Eliminator cars where Corvettes have always been very popular and still are today.

Pro Stock as we know it was not even an offical class until 1970 in the NHRA, althou many outlaw tracks had run what you brung races for "not class legal" Super Stock cars in 1969..... The popularity if these "Pro Stock" races prompted the NHRA to make a class in order to keep their drivers from running for bigger $$$ purses at outlaw race tracks....

Just a bit of knowlege but Harold Dutton won the very first NHRA Divisional Pro Stock race at Phenix City Alabama in 1970... Sorry but it wasn't in a Corvette.
Will

No one ever used a corvette in Pro Stock, they didn't fit the rules.

Sorry, Corvettes weren't ever legal in Pro Stock

Are you looking to build a Super Stock car or a bracket car?

Street/strip car. Looking for a mid year like I have. I used to race my 67 but didnt want to cut it up and put a cage in it. Post up some pictures of the red vette in your sig.

Very nice:thumbs: Post a picture of the interior if you can. Looking to see how the cage is in with the original dash pads. I want the original interior with a cage. maybe race seats. Do you have room to get to the latches for the hear top with the halo?
I will probably take the rear ,12 bolt with an Auto fab 4 link from my 80 and install it into the mid year.

I haven't had the car very long & it was like this when I got it. The previous owner had taken the side-bars out I guess with the intention of driving it on the street. I'm undecided whether I'll install them solid or with swing-away's. My hardtop is hard bolted instead of factory latches for safety when racing.

I've got some with the top off but don't have them downloaded yet. Will try to get them on later.

355" low compression SBC with intentions of a Procharger. I'll eventually put that in my '80 & I'll build a BBC, probably a L-88 style 427 with a 5-spd. for the '63.

Kind of ironic we both have '80 models. Here's a few pix of the back-half I just did for my Son and I.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...psa3984af0.jpg

I was able to tack-weld the sub-frame & rear suspension in-car then remove for finish welding & powdercoating. More pix coming....

HotRodRed 02-25-2013 09:12 PM

Here's a shot with the 16x32 tires on it. These came on my '63 but the wheel offset was wrong but perfect for the '80. Will hold more rubber...has 22" of tire room per side...

...and enough heavy duty "stuff" to make it work!
