Period Pictures of Cars...

As an "amateur" historian, I love seeing pictures of things being used in its own era.

I've brought that interest with me into the Corvette world. While its easy to find pictures of Corvettes, most of the time, they are either modern pictures of old cars, or advertising shots, or pictures of cars at car shows.

The kind of pictures I like to see are the ones that are probably in your own family photo albums. They rarely come to light, because most of the folks that "own" the photos, don't have a scanner, or lack the time, patience, or energy to digitize them.

As the Corvette community ages, and the analog photo era wanes, these photos will probably be lost.

If you have any, and can spare some time to "digitize" them, I think we'd all like to see them.

I don't have any, so I will data mine some, from this site and around the web (and try to get permission) and post em here. If you know the date of the photo, folks involved, and circumstance (IE My Brother came back from NAM and immediately bought this Vette photo taken around 1969)

**NOTE** I think its even cooler if there are people in/around the car.... I love seeing the clothing styles, and seeing the cars being used for their intended purposes

For Example
MiguelsC2 Posted a pic in this thread of "my Moms '53 These pics were on her 14th B-day. September 23, 1953"

This was taken in '67, I believe. Dad had purchased a '57 that he was planning on turning into a drag car. Only problem was he bought the car in PA and had to get it to Norfolk, VA. So he towed it with his '65. He eventually sold the '57 after the transmission was stolen out of it while it was in his in-laws' garage. The money from the sale went to purchase my mother's engagement ring. The '65 is in my garage now. I have many more of the '65, I just don't have them uploaded yet.

I'll dig around but to get you started here's a picture of me with my 66. The 66 was a Black/Saddle loaded 300hp Air/Automatic.

These are 2 pictures I came across while looking for information on Placke Chevrolet in South St Louis Mo. First is 1954 I think the second is the summer of 1962.

You guys are on it!!!

I especially like 66Jack's pic... that really catches the "moment in time" the clothes, the car, the people doing everyday stuff.

And Nowehere Man...
Love those clothes! You didn't have to tell us when the pic was taken! Screams 70s!

These kind of pictures are REALLY hard to find. You google 1965 Corvette, and you get a lot of Great Car photos... but you have to dig really deep to get this kind of stuff.... I had better luck with searches like
"My Dad's Corvette"

Bud Reeves Bio with pic titled "Me in my '58 Corvette in Colorado Springs Colorado in 1959"

Notice that the 55 Corvettes both had wire wheels. Maybe that will show NCRS that not all 55 were sold woth regular hubcaps like Roys 55 copper.

Again... GREAT Stuff guys!

Speaking of Great Stuff... my internet search lead me to a professional photographer's site
Jonny Long Photography. Please check it out, as there is a very cool series called Matt + Cherise. While contemporary, they are dressed in clothes of the 50/60s, and Jonny has captured everything we love about Corvettes in just a few photographs. AMAZING!

From the site:
Matt and Cherise Ballou were pretty great to photograph. It helped that with them came a 1959 Corvette (which coincidently was the exact same car my wife and I drove away from our wedding in). They had a terrific blend of fun and contagious energy and relaxed ease in front of the camera.

Here is a sample... now go see for yourself!
