Another dropped Valve

Was on kijiji out here in Canada. Its like craiglist in the states. Guy was selling a c6z06 with a new motor. I emailed him and asked i bet it was from a dropped valve and he replied saying yes. He had warrenty and is selling because he is to scared it will happen again. I have mine up for sale too because i am concerned since i just did headers and a huge cam with a cold air induction and im tapped out at the momment to spend another 4 to 5 thousand to get the heads done.

RedZ4me 02-24-2013 08:20 PM

...........maybe you should have spend the $$$ on the fix before the headers......and you could still have cammed it while apart. Now you need to do the work twice.

capevettes 02-24-2013 08:42 PM

Or you could have left it stock like alot of us that are driving them and enjoying them without any fear. Did you ask the guy what kind of monster cam he put in his Z before it grenaded and how he was driving it?

I should of spent the money on the fix first but didn't realize it is practically an epidemic. Well if it don't sell wich i doubt i'll sell for a cheap buck anyhow i will fix this on my next paying job. Didn't have to take the heads off to do a cam so thats part of the reason for not getting done either. Im just gonna lay off the gas until then and just cruise.

Lots of credible evidence here.....

Like there's been no stock LS7 that have failed...:crazy2:

Just Cruise 02-24-2013 08:52 PM

Yes he just replied back and yes it was due to making big power with his cam, headers, and cold air.

Last month you said you were going to buy a Viper... :willy:

WhiteDiamond 02-24-2013 10:02 PM

Doing my heads over the next couple of weeks. Yes, down time sucks, but it won't cost anywhere near 4 -5K.......Be glad when the Z owners who can't deal with it are moved on.....Good luck with your next choice.....

'cause stock cars don't fail or anything

Just Cruise 02-24-2013 11:27 PM

I said i was buying a viper. I can't remember saying that. Anyhow im pretty sure on keeping the car and i am gonna get a set of reworked heads from LG Motorsports. They come assembled so no down time and my mechanic said he would switch em out for $600 labour. So if i go with the ported out heads it's gonna be a $3600 bill or just new valves and valve guides $2600. Anyone else have any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Quite the comedian, lol. You must have several years of warranty left or have a spare ls7 sitting in your garage that you got for a nickle, because that's a brave statement to make. Anyone that owns a ls7 that reads these forums that has sense will be upgrading their heads before their warranty runs out if they are planning on keeping their car for the long haul. To not do so seems foolish after seeing so many examples of stock ls7s giving up the ghost, and that's just the forums. This is not just my opinion, but also advice from some local shops I talked to.

Just Cruise 02-24-2013 11:33 PM

No in fact zero warrenty left its a 2006 and no i have no spare motor either. So it's getting done in the next month before spring so im not worried cruise season is still 2 months away out here. I am pissed off at myself for not doing the heads first now believe me.

Just Cruise 02-24-2013 11:47 PM

Was also gonna say i have seen some posts with stock LS7 motors going as well so if you think your safe with your stock car maybe you are but then maybe not either. It's a gamble and i usually just cruise but it is nice to goose on it once in a while knowing your safe too. So with my new mods i am definately getting new heads too wich i should of did first. Guess to excited and didn't think of the long run first but am back on track now.

Congrats on making the decision to move forward with headwork and let us know what you end up going with.

I just dropped the car off on Friday to get heads along with a cam.

Here is how I resolved my valve train issues:
