Extended warranty coverage?
 

I am curious what the general opinion on extended coverage for mechanical issues might be. I purchased a "Repair Advantage Max" coverage agreement with my GS thinking that safer is usually better. After giving it some thought and looking at what is and is not covered and all the reasons that they can deny coverage, I am having doubts if it is really worth the $2,200 for a 4 year agreement. This also limits a lot of modifications of course as well I still have 2 years and 30,000 miles on the original warranty plus the powertrain coverage from GM, so this does not seem to be adding that much. I guess 2 years on non powertrain parts without a deductable.
The question is has anyone had to use one of these plans and feel they did or did not benifit from having them. I have another few weeks that I can cancel it with a full refund, so just curious.

Since you can cancel do so. Get the GMPP extended warranty just before the 3/36 expires on your GS.

Just got my second GMPP from Dennis on the '08. Best warranty on the market. Remember that most policies including your OEM from GM can be voided by certain mods so read the fine print before you sign.

Another vote for GMPP and Dennis Fichtner.

There are various points were the price goes up and the available coverage goes down. For most people, the best time to buy GMPP is shortly before you get to 36 months OR 36,000 miles. But if you drive it a lot and plan to keep it a long time, then buying early can actually save you money even though you are getting duplicate coverage for a while. That's what we did, after looking at his numbers.

Email Dennis your VIN and miles, he'll send you a detailed email with all the combinations of months/miles/deductibles/purchase date. Read carefully and pick the combination that's best for YOU.

Here Here I agree if you are not in FL Dennis is the man. Bought my GMPP from Dennis for my '12GS based on my mileage extending out to 7 years for most every part on the car it was sure worth peace of mind. And if you sell your car before your time is up on the contract it is transferable.

What most people don't know is that GMPP is NOT general motors insurance. It is covered by allied insurance co. They call it GMPP so people will feel good about it cause it has GM in it.

IIRC, it was actually owned by a subsidiary of GM at one time, and the whole operation was sold during the long slide toward bankruptcy.

In addition to feeling good, GMPP has some of the best aftermarket coverage available. I've used it too many times on three different Corvettes during the last 11 years, all over the country, and never had any problems with a dealer. Just jump in the free rental car and say "call me when it's fixed." Especially valuable on vacations.

You can also use outside shops for GMPP work, the procedure is still fairly simple and I've done that too.

I wasn't knocking they're coverage, in fact I have it on my Z as well but because it says GMPP people think they are purchasing a GM product which they are not.

I bought an extended warranty on mine when I bought it last July. I was told it was GM, but 3 months later when I got something in the mail about it, turns out it wasn't. And it wasn't recognized by anyone else other than the dealership I bought it from for any maintenance either. :crazy2: So, realizing I'd been sold a can of worms, I cancelled it. And I plan on picking up a GM plan in June or July from Denny Fichtner.

I also bought a five year GMPP from Dennis just before the factory 3/36 warranty expired. This way I got eight years of protection. I used it three times and it more than paid for it's self. :thumbs:
