HEI parts ?
 

Recently had the Distributor Cap off my '86, and when I removed the two plastic "insulator" pieces inside the Distributor, they pretty much fell apart. Does anyone know where I get new ones? I'm not even sure what the factory calls them...possibly "Shield Module" # 1984382 ???... the factory put them in there for a reason. Thanks...

I believe you're looking for a terminal block package. The original GM number would have been 1892261 and then likely an 1892260 and both are no longer available. They are available in the aftermarket and you should use the original as a reference, the later I don't believe came with the capacitor:

Part # RC4T from rock auto. Listed as a capacitor. This one goes to the coil. Could not find one to ecm.

The part I referenced in the eBay ad is "internal to the HEI" if that's in fact what the OP wanted. I put the ad there for the "image" and if it looks like what he wants the part is a direct cross from the OE. Yes it can be listed as "capacitor" - OE noun name is "terminal block"! You would need to be sure you're buying the package and NOT just the capacitor.

There was a 1984382 shield that the OP references but I haven't seen one in years. The plastics that fail in an HEI aside from the module is the terminal block which is actually a connector to the module. I don't actually know the function of that part #'d shield.

This is a very confusing part to find. Had the same problem on my 89. Finally looked up capacitor to see if it would cross reference to the harness. Capacitor is listed ( includes harness) Bought it installed and works fine. Still trying to find the other that goes to ECM.

Thanks to you all for the replys. I was fixing a broken vacume line, and had to pull the Distributor. The plastic pieces practally fell out as I was pulling it, and I really didn't pay that much attention...I assumed they were simply insulators, and my FSM wasn't really much help in viewing the thing. I'm guessing I just had the top halves that were broken off. I'll pull the cap off and actually look things over...Again Thanks

The shield isn't of course serviced and I don't recall the composition of it. It mounted directly on top of the module and in this image both the shield and module are represented as #4. Anyone with an '84 thru '91 should be able to acknowledge the composition of it. The terminal block #8 which is plastic is service with the capacitor OR could be serviced as a part less the capacitor in later years and a different part #:

The plastic insulator is part of the cable assembly. It hasn't been available for many years (I've looked). Mine fell to pieces a long time ago and the cable now comes out of the distributor with no insulation, like so:

OK - that's a 1986260 that has long been discontinued. The easiest find would likely be from another TPI Corvette or F bodied Pontiac or Chevrolet that is also a TPI car.

I just saw an infomercial for a product that could be used to mold an insulator for that. It slips my mind presently but I recall seing it. Sets in a couple hours and retains it's flexibility well they say.

Meant part on other side of distributor that goes to the ECM or timing module. Yes part 23 in pic. Sorry for the confusion.

While I still haven't gotten into my Distributor, I did find these at Eklers... part # 37816 and # 32973. I figure they're probably what I need. I wasn't having any luck looking for "insulators". :D

The 37816 part comes with crimp terminals to splice it into the existing wire harness. It's not plug and play. This is the 4 wire ECM harness connection.

The 32973 part is the two wire harness that goes from the ignition module up to the distributor terminals on the side of the cap (tach and power).
