1962 corvette engine help?

My 1962 corvette that I recently purchased has a block# 3849852 which is a 283. But it also has a manifold# 3795397 which is an aluminum 4bbl manifold for a 327 340 hp. Can anybody help me figure this out?

What do you want to know. Just about any SBC intake will work with just about any heads and block. If you want to know what the engine block started out as on the passenger side in the front of the block right below the cyl head there is a machined pad. Called the stamp pad. If there is any numbers there post them and someone can decode it for you. If nothing there then you have no clue what it was

apparently someone has changed the engine... what is the redline on the tach, the original engine may have been a 340 and someone used the original manifold.

The numbers I can find are as follows
Serial no. 20867S108187
Block# 3849852
Eng code 805423854
Carburetor is a Rochester 4 jet
Manifold # 3795397

The car is still in storage so I am not sure what the redline is on the tach. What should it be for a 340 hp

Just went out to the sea-can and its redline is at 6400rpm. Can't wait to get it out and running for the summer!!

the engine could be anything; without taking it apart you will never know for sure..

if it runs good, leave it alone and enjoy driving it..

That block was used only in '58-'67 passenger car and truck 283's, never in Corvettes; most likely a hydraulic-lifter 2-barrel Powerglide engine.
