I have to sell my C6.

I'm thinking about buying a less expensive Corvette to keep my spirits up for the next year or two.

Has anyone gone from a C6 to a C4? Will a C4 scratch the itch while the C6 is gone? The upside for me is I like the style of the pre-LT1 C4's with the side vents. Is the C4 underpowered and does it lack active handling?

Get a ZR1 and have fun with it.

All the time and effort and DMV, tax fees, worth it?

Maybe theres another way?

I had an 87 while I had my 98.
The 87 with the L98 motor has a LOT of torque but not much horsepower. It was just as fun to drive as any corvette I've had.

What you wont get is looks form other people. I know people always seem to notice a c5 or c6 coming around a corner. Hardly anyone takes a second look at a C4. But as a driver its a fun car.

I feel your pain.

As boraxman pointed out, there is a cost to the switch. Is there another way?
C4's are good cars but nothing like the C6, totally different class of car.
The LT1 is a good engine, in my opinion, much better then the L98.

Some pretty low cost C5's are also available.

If you must make the change...you must. Not the same experience as the C6 but its still a nice car and you can take the top off. The good news is that they are fully depreciated.

I just sold my C6 to make room for a new C7. My car sold much faster than I anticipated so I bought a C4 to hold me over. I found a 21000 mile one owner 1994 for only $10000. I have to say it has been a while since I owned a C4 and I forgot just how fun they are to drive. I use my Corvettes as a toy only, not a daily driver.
I do not miss the C6 really at all. I am not a racer of any kind so the difference in 1/4 mile times is irrelevant to me, but the torque around town and the feel of a real throttle instead of a drive by wire has been a lot of fun.
This car will hold me over just fine.

I have owned 25 vettes from all 6 generations and the one I kept the longest by a huge margin was my 86 pace car convert that I owned for over 18 years. Was a lot of fun to drive and the funny thing is I sold it to a guy in Scottsdale who came to look at it in his nearly new C6 Z06. He emailed me about 6 months later and had sold the Z06 because after buying the 86 convert he rarely ever drove the Z.

That is the style of C4 I like the best. I understand the LT1 engine is more desirable than L98, but I like the style of the early C4's better.

I'd sell my wife before I'd sell my vette!!!!!!!!! :rofl: j/k

It's never a pleasant ordeal when you have to part with something that you worked hard for to buy.. Down sizing your trade? you may not like the numbers when it's all said and done.. Good luck:thumbs:

You can have a ton of fun in a C4. Reason being is that my dads close to stock 93 can be ran harder in corners for me than my C6 with 600 hp. My car is clearly faster but his being less powerful is easier to control and there isnt as much fear.

The C4's are good cars, they really are. They are reliable, not that hard to work on, suck to get in and out of, but to me are not bad on the back either. Plus they are 150+ mph cars that can outrun 99% of the cars on the road even today. Low hp but good tq and you can take off from a light very quickly. If it was me I would look for an automatic that has at least 2.73 gears or a manual car. :)

Try to stay in the '90's when buying a C4. I had an '89 with a heat soak issues on the starter. I believe it was rectified in the '90's.

92 + is where ya need to be. Can get them for 6-10k.

I tried! Went from a 2011 Z to a 2003 AE convertible. Loved the convertible but absolutely hated driving it. It was like driving my wife's Honda. Traded as soon as I could.

Thanks, loved that car and was a ball to drive. I liked the interior a lot better on the early C4's than the later years. It is amazing how much the new C7 dash reminds me of the late C4 dash styling.

I would look for an automatic, there were a lot of nagging problems with the 4+3 manual trans cars. The automatic in my 86 was still working great at 105k miles when I sold it and all I did was change the fluids and filter at the recommended intervals.

My 86 was pretty much trouble free over the 18 years I owned it and other than normal maintenance items all I had to replace was a starter, brake master cylinder, power steering pump and hoses and a fuel pump.

When I sold the car I got $4,500 less than I had paid for it 18 years before so all and all a very inexpensive car to own. The last few years it ran me about $35 a month for full insurance coverage and the plates were about $20 a year. :D

The C5 was a completely different driving feel, kind of detached from the road. I found that one of the things I really liked when I bought a C6 convert was how much it reminded me of the driving feel of my C4's.

I drove my C4 for 20 years, and sold it, and bought C6, and will never go back to the C4 sorry to say, the new one is lot more fun to drive.

The C4 is the deal of the century. I owned a C4 before owning the C6, I kept it for many years and had a great time in it. The market really under values it so it can make a really great find for someone looking to get into a Vette. It's hard to get into but once in, I found the seats very comfortable. I'm glad you arel able to keep a Vette in the stable.

I agree with purchasing a C5. There a plenty of them available and are reasonably priced.

Sorry to hear that you have to give your present car.

:iagree: Weigh all the costs and you might be better off keeping the C6

I would sit on that itch as I do not think going to a C4 is going to do it for you.
