need yr opinion

I seriously need your opinion.

Good friend of mine has purchased used 2010 ZR1 from one dealer in Texas month ago and he lives in California. This dealer seems descent, handle a lot of high ended cars.

He did receive the car and waiting for original title to come so he can register at local DMV in CA.

Yesterday, he heard news from the sales manager who sold the car to my friend from that dealer saying dealer is out of business and he is no longer work at that dealer.

My friend asked him what to do, but all he is saying to my poor friend is that THEY ARE WENT OUT OF BUSINESS, not take his call ! WTF !!

I really want to help him. Can anyone advise me what is the proper step my friend needs to take?

Every opinion welcomed.

Thanks

I would hop on a plane and head to that dealership in Texas and take care of this business in person rather than calling and or sending emails.

Secondly obtain council from a local lawyer to see what laws will apply to your case in order to get the issue resolved.

Get some "proof" they are out of business then take that info to your local DMV to see what they say .... also have him take any paper work he has i.e. sales contract, proof of payment, etc.
i'm sure it isn't the first time this thing has happened.
will be interesting to see how things work out.

I had a flip side of that one time .... bought a Z06 175 mi out of state from a very small/old dealer that had never sold to an out of state buyer. After a lot of talking, they sent me on my way with all the paper work and the MSO signed by them (they only had a personal $70K check from me). They were concerned/sweating that if my check bounced and I ran they would be searching a long time for me and the car. I went to the court house the next day and took care of my business and sent them proof. Bottom line ... we are very good friends with the owner now as they purchased a winter home near ours in Arizona.
But, as they didn't deal with ZR1's, we weren't able to give them additional Vette business.

The info others provided is good. There is a possibility that the dealer may have had an open line of credit with a lender and your title is being held by that lender. If the dealer went out of business one could assume they were having money problems. I sure hope this isnt the case. I would have no idea how this would get resolved but it could be a possibility. I hope not.

My guess is same as yours. This dealer handle more than 60 - 100 high ended cars at their lot and there must be a money issue so they went of business. This is so sucks !

timmyZ06 07-17-2013 12:29 PM

Its nightmare cuz it seems the title could and most likely be held by lenders! !

beastyz06 07-17-2013 03:22 PM

I just checked with Texas DMV and there is no lien on the car.

timmyZ06 07-17-2013 03:27 PM

Even if you don't see a lien that doesn't mean car isn't financed. Dealerships does finance their inventory. It's a possibility maybe not the reality. I really hope so for him.

Thank you All !!!

Well noted Marissa, but they are not Chevy dealer, would that make any difference?

beastyz06 07-17-2013 10:30 PM

We just found out that the company filed Chapter 7 last Thursday. My friend received e-mail from dealer owner to have my friend to contact bankruptcy attorney. Is this good or bad?

Gary '09 C6 07-17-2013 11:00 PM

he doesn't have a choice--needs to follow their instructions. Might need his own attorney to assist...

timmyZ06 07-18-2013 06:42 AM

Omg poor him that's the worst situation i can think of! !!
I really hope for him it will be resolved soon

Hey beastyz06,

Yes unfortunately we are only able to assist if it is a GM dealership. He could try contacting some authority in that area, I have not had to deal with this type of situation but they may help. Keep us all posted,

Good luck!
Many good ideas above.
An agent in or visit to Texas may be the best IMO.

Did not see written if the OP financed.
If so a telephone call to the financier may answer a question or two.
Again good luck.

7 vs 13 bankruptcy? Not sure, but time may be of the essence so the OP can be listed
as a higher level creditor. I don't think we have enough info yet what do do with joining
the bankruptcy.

I think with this endless scrolling feature, sometimes people are now reading a different thread than they started looking at and end up replying to these old topics

I bet you are right. I've clicked on threads via my email and ended up in an entirely different thread.
