Anyone else feel the HUD is kind of a waste on this car

Seems like such a shame to take away from the new dash setup. I loved the HUD on my C6, but in retrospect I realize it was partially because I didn't have to look at the Silverado gauges that made me appreciate it.

Zymurgy 07-25-2013 10:43 PM

Absolutely not. I love being able to quickly get info without looking away from the road. Plus, the C7 HUD will be much improved over the C6 HUD.

I'll have to drive mine a bit before I could render an opinion, but I really don't think so.

I wish all vehicles had selectable HUD

Agreed, who wants to refocus to an in car dash even if its a beauty! But the HUD is now in color too!

Nope, don't believe its a waste on any car. Great tool for SA which, around here, every driver needs... desperately.

jsc7vette 07-25-2013 10:52 PM

I find the HUD a great tool- I keep posted speed and my current speed in it and rarely have any need to look at gauges.

rijowysock 07-25-2013 11:02 PM

i just look at the gauges, they are only a few inches lower.

H101 07-25-2013 11:04 PM

Absolutely not!

Have HUDs on all three of our cars, won't buy another without one.

(but the C7's is going to put the others to shame)

Racer 07-25-2013 11:08 PM

No.....

v26278 07-25-2013 11:08 PM

I always look at HUD for speed, but for whatever reason never use theHUD tach. It's a nice feature for watching speed

DoTheyMakeOtherCars? 07-25-2013 11:30 PM

Wouldn't have it without the HUD. Had the first HUD on my C5, have it on my C6, and will have it on my C7 as well :-)

Exactly. I feel HUD is unnecessary, but to each their own.

It depends on how you have the main display configured. But if you don"t want the HUD, you can choose 1LT, or turn the intensity to zero.

Well, and optically a few inches away instead of out at infinity, requiring re-focus.

I always viewed it as a gimmick.

If it can't display GPS, it's really not very useful IMO.

I'm driving for 50 years and by habit I looked at the speedo on my c6, I did use the nav and radio info on that hud and will like it on my C7

My guess is that you can if you want to. Presumably it is very similar to the HUD on my XTS. If you have a nav route running, you can get the relevant information, such as upcoming turns, displayed in the color output of the HUD full time. Or if you don't, it will still 'pop' into the HUD at appropriate times similar to the way warning messages appear in it.

HUD's been around for some time and it never seems to have taken off in the industry. I guess that's why it appears to be a gimmick. Others don't seem to be rushing in to do it.

Until you start driving with it, and then you get hooked on it.
But GPS would be an awesome addition, but try it for a while before rejecting it.

If anything it keeps me much more honest with speed limits. Also what is great about it you always know where you are in acceleration. You can easily go beyond your intended target between gauge cluster glance downs.

Bottom line: You keep your eyes on the road your hands upon the wheel and speedometer displayed before you. Works for me.
