HELP,starter wire

I was trying to fine the 11amp draw, last place was the starter and all three of these wire were on the center bolt with the hot lead from the battery.

the black I know will be a ground
the red ? (alternator hot?)
the one with the fuse had a braided wire mesh sleeve covering on the top half.
I think I lucky that the car did not burn down.
where do the belong on a reman starter.

The black is a ground and connects to a starter or bellhousing bolt.

The round part on the burnt wire is a fusible link, it should be replaced and the wire with the quick connect should also have a fusible link.

There is no fusible link on the purple.
The purple connects to the small terminal on the solenoid, closest to the block and should not have such a large connector on the end.

You have HEI so there is nothing on your "R" terminal.
The "R" terminal is only used on a points distributor.

Bubba has been in there, you will have to trace the wires back a little more so we can tell what wire connects to what.

That diagram shows no wire for the car, the burned up bigger wire, which appears to be purple, goes on the big lug with the battery cable to give the car juice. I would assume the red taped up wire goes to the S terminal on the solenoid which activates the solenoid, and the black is the ground, to tranny bolt or starter bolt.

And yes, the burned up wire (fusible link) definitely needs to be replaced, it saved you once, it's done.

Just to be sure, test the wires with the burned up wire (after you repair it) bolted to the solenoid with the battery cable, leave the others loose, but isolated so they don't hit a ground and test them for 12v when turning the key to start. The one that gives you 12v goes to the S terminal, I believe it will be the red one, test the black one for 12v too, make sure the wipers are off, pretty sure that's the ground for the wipers. Things have definitely been messed with, if that's the ground wire, looks like it has the wrong size terminal on it.

Zambo75 said all 3 wires were on the solenoid "BATTERY" terminal. The battery wire and ammeter wire and the Black (wiper and fan motor ground) burnt up as soon as the battery was connected.
Your are correct he has to find the original body colors to correct the problem, that's why I suggested tracing back before the splices, and then put the correct size terminals on the ends.

The small 18ga black wire and the larger red 12ga wire both have fusible links.
The purple 12ga wire does not and is connected to the "s" terminal.

OK, I took your advice and trace the wire, fusible turn red and went to the alternator split (2) off and went to the fuse (2)panel , the red one with the disconnect on it went straight to the fuse panel, as the one that look black also to the panel (bulk head)

The small black 18ga wire to the bulkhead is for the ammeter, not ground and needs a fusible link at the solenoid.
There should be another black 14ga wire down there somewhere that originally had a large eyelet. That is the ground.
You can test for it using a simple test light or better an ohm meter.

How many fusible links should there be on a 75?
I was poking around mine today and it looks like one is burned through. There is at least one other one maybe two but I need to pull back some tape to verify.

However there is nothing that doesn't work. Bubba may have been involved but like I said I need to pull some tape back.
