Cops and bugs
 

I just returned from a two week trip to South Florida in my 2013 GS. The trip down was about 18 hours and very pleasant. On the way home, I headed across the state on Route 60. Part of that road is two lane with passing lanes every so often. I had passed everyone and was doing about 80 in a 60MPH zone. Nobody was around anywhere until, coming at me in the other lane, a sheriff. He immediately turned on his lights as I was hitting the brakes and I knew I was done. However, he just drove by and turned off his lights. Counting my lucky stars, I kept it reigned in for the rest of the trip.
Now, that I am home, I can't get the dang bugs off the front of the car. Two car washings and they are still there! What do you suggest? I know it's too late for a bra but please tell me there won't be damage. Bugs were everywhere and big too!:ack:

Those lovebugs have a nasty acid in them and need to be washed off fast. If I were you keep the nose of the car or wherever the bug are soaped and wet for sometime and keep at it. If that doesn't work clay it.

take some towels.....soak them in a 5 gallon bucket of HOT water...lay them on the car for 30 minutes...then wash...clay if necessary but the towel trick works wonders

I took the fj cruiser instead of the corvette, if you think you got it bad, try driving a toaster thru them:D I sprayed them with a bug off and let it sit for 30 minutes and then took it to the car wash. I had to scrub a few places but they came off.

Isn't this a little late in the year for love bugs in Florida?

When I was in Clearwater Saturday, I grew up there by the way and went to Clearwater High School, there weren't many bugs. But in the center of the state there were lots of love bugs and other large bugs that were exploding on the windshield. I drove that road many times and never experienced the bugs as bad as this trip. :eek:

I will be giving that a try directly. I was hating the idea of bug and tar remover on my paint. Thanks!! :rock:

I wipe down the front end with WD-40 before long trips...bug removal much easier afterwards.:thumbs:

:iagree: Easiest way I've found. They come right off after a good soaking A coat of your favorite sealant before the trip will help too.

Bug and tar remover will _not_ hurt your paint.... after more than 600,000 miles in Corvettes in "bug country" ask me how I know..... :willy:

Take a mist-spray bottle of hydrogen peroxide, and liberally spray onto bugs, and wait about 30-45 seconds, and wipe off. I have been doing this on my Harley's windshield and painted surfaces for several years with no problems. If they are really bad, repeat.

Zaino gloss enhancer works great. I use it during road trips, but I do it after each day of driving, The suckers melt right off after letting the enhancer sit for a few minutes.

I've had good luck with the Turtle Wax Bug & Tar Remover and some elbow grease

I live in Pinellas County and we really don't get the Lovebugs as we did some years back. The hot towels will work as long as they have not been on to long. As mentioned they have a very bad acid that will eat the clearcoat. Good luck and i hope you get them off.

On a side note, to those visiting the state or even those that live here, my son went out fishing on his boat last Saturday and was 12 miles out in the Gulf and said they were as thick as thieves out there.

I grew up in central FL. bugs were NASTY. soaking a towel in HOT water and then setting it on the paint looses the BUG GUTS and they will slide off when you hit them with slight pressure from a hose. a good coat of also keeps them in check.
as far a the cop, you are SOOOOOOOOOOOOO lucky. county and local cops PAY THEIR BILLS WITH YOU MONEY. you hardly see FHP unless there is an accident.

Well the bug and tar etched my VHT night shades taillights with clear coat sooo...I would not leave the bug and tar on too long...FYI
