C-7 MSRP affecting C-1 & 2 retail prices ?
 

When one considers a 2014 Corvette can be purchased for mid fifties price range is it going to limit the high end prices we have noticed on driver / restored older models ? I am seeing one hundred plus thousand asking prices which obviously is not for the average buyer. These are high end cars with tons of labor and expensive parts coming to the sales market. Upon the purchase of that crown jewel who is going to enjoy the car by driving it ?
As the advertised " nice " drivers creep to 40 plus my attention recently turned to a C-7. I read a lot of complaints from members who never sat in the seat and wonder why. There isn't a feature I have read about I didn't feel intrigued to explore. I'm not selling my old fleet rather adding or looking forward to the new experience. Maybe the high end owners are seeing the light and no longer feel comfortable with their " bar of gold ". Some of us may be stuck in the past but GM is doing a great job of showing the possibilities of a modern great sports machine. Just my two cents.

Not a chance, I don't think most C7 buyers are cross shopping the older cars (and many don't know what they are or care).

The rear end of the 2014 looks so awful it will drive UP the prices of C1s and C2s!

I like the 2014 a lot, but I'm not cross shopping it and another old vette, I'm cross shopping it and another new car.

:iagree: That thing is fugly. I would bet that at least 90% of the C-7 buyers wouldn't know what a C-1 or C-2 is even it were parked on top of them, however, they'll probably have the best gold chain collection of any previous generation owners.

:iagree: C7 prices have little or nothing to do with C1 & C2 prices.

One could argue that if some buyers are really proud of their C7s, they'll go out looking to buy a C2 or C3 to compliment it, and increase demand (and ultimately price) for the older Corvettes.

I've always thought the fact that they are still making Corvettes helps the value of the earlier cars, as opposed to a similar collector car of a product line that died off.

I like the C7... and I "briefly" thought about getting one... in lieu of the C2 that I purchased.

There were pros and cons of each, and a big pro on the C7 was that it could be used everyday, all year. While my '67 is a fair weather spring to fall car.

But I have wanted a C1/2 since I was 10, so that is what I got.

After buying my SWC recently, I went to the DMV to get plates. Woman there thought I bought the car for a price with one less 0 at the end. She about fell out of her chair when I corrected her. She observed that I obviously wasn't trying to lie to cheat my way out of tax due. Then she said "that's about what a new one costs!"

I said while that's true the new one will go in one direction in value and mine is going the other (the right direction).

I like the C7 a lot but I found after buying a new C5 that I would just get bored with a new car again.

And hundreds of thouands of C7s will come off the assembly line in the next few years.

They aren't making any more '53-'67s......... :thumbs:

They don't make new c1 or c2's any more.

I do not feel that the c7 will affect the price of the older cars. Did the c5 or c6 affect the price?

I love the new c7, but need to finish my 65 and 72 restorations before I buy anything else.

I had similar thoughts. My wife also asked me why I was looking at C1's when I could just go to the dealer and order a new C7 and have the warranty as well. It really is simple to me - I want a C1 and everything that goes with it, not a C7.

It's not like there would be an unbiased post here. 95% of the members own C-1&2s. Their only hope is the cars go up five percent a year. It is nice to have an " antique " to look at and maybe put a couple hundred miles on a year. I still like to look but favoring creature comforts I am heading towards the sunset in a newer generation where I don't have to worry about U joints and old drive lines. There will always be a group but the majority will head to the dealers for the latest model. Believe it or not lower new prices will definitely affect older model prices. This is the reason the expensive restorations are heading to market before the 14 production hit the lots in great numbers.
