Anyone know the difference between a radio speaker for a non air car versus a car with factory air

This question came up before and I recall reading here about it. This thread http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...placement.html has the discussion. The conclusion was that 65-67 AC/non-AC speakers were the same. I am assuming you are using original radio, not aftermarket, therefore the speaker from www.turnswitch.com has the proper 10 ohm 6x9 with correct mounted coil. I do not have AC but have this speaker in my '66 and sounds perfect. Hopefully someone here with an AC 65-67 can reply on using this speaker :cheers:

original speakers have square magnets, not round. ARA

My above reply was for a correct replacement fitting. If the OP is asking about original speakers, then yes, they had rectangular magnet housings. The original part number was 7282256 and from the prior discussion referenced above, that same number 65-67 for air and non-air cars. The original ones are available at that auction place :cheers:

I've had two '66 factory air coupes - one of which needed a new speaker. As I recall the stock speaker in an AC car is flatter (depthwise) to give clearance for the AC vent...not saying you can't fit a regular one in there, but there is a difference.

The part number for the thin profile Delco speaker used in many AC C2's was 7282256. Greg's aftermarket speaker will also fit, thanks mainly to the smaller rare earth magnet.

The sound quality of that thin version was surprisingly good considering that the cone "throw" (in and out movement) appeared to be limited.

Its not the magnet that hits it's the metal around the speaker, what is the length of the metal part of the speaker? You can't adjust your upper vent it hits the metal not the magnet.
