I plan on combining these 4 inspirational cars into mine. These 3 are the reason my car is not going back to bone stock. I can't sleep at night just thinking about it!

One thing to consider is the wheel tire choice. If you want to have the car look like an old SCCA A or B production car stay away from the 17-18'' wheels. While the tire technology is much better the old race car look is destoyed with the larger in my opinion cartoonist wheels with little tire sidewall. It's a shame they do not make the 40/45 series 17'' tires anymore. They did not look that bad. ---------- Ken

Is that one Pontiac "mag" wheel narrow enough to use as a spare in the stock compartment? Different and cool IMO.

No wide rubber available in 15" or 16". Left with no choice but to go 17" or 18".At least I found a minilite lookalike wheel in sizes that they make wide rubber for.

Using my stock frame...I will use some gusseting and rollbar to stiffen it up though. Maybe a removable crossmember.

Great minds think alike. I LOVE the looks of these flared race cars, and plan to incorporate some of their ideas into my next project! I will be following your build with great interest. At this point, are you planning to use the stock frame or go to a "resto-mod" aftermarket version?
Thanks- DandyDon |
Skipping ahead because I have about 800 pix of various states of resto that aren't important to anyone but me, So I'll edit. These are up to date as of today. Bubba didn't tell me it got punched in the face, but no worries...I got it for a good price so...It's moving right along.:woohoo: :willy:

Love where you are going with the car. It really sucks that you can't get 15" wide stuff anymore.. I love the old school stance of mine, but with only one more set of front tires, 275/50's, and the rears getting pretty rare, I'll be going to 18's after they are gone - and getting rid of my custom 11" and 12" wheels.... maybe sooner since the front tires are so old and getting hard...

So is that 5.5" backspaced 12's for the rears, and 4"backspaced 10's for the front? Currently my 12's are at 5.75" on the rear now, and 11's are at 4.75 on the front, so those just might just work - can't wait to see 'em.
Ah, I see - looked em up - I see they make a one piece, and a two piece version... and list a range of backspacing, but don't mention if it covers both.... I like the classic look of a one piece, but I can't imagine they have a range of backspacing for the one piece? |
Had to do a 2 pc for the rears. Talked to the owner on the phone for about 40 minutes. Really nice guy. Went through all the details on fitment, so I should be ok. They should be here by Tues-Wed. :woohoo:

:woohoo::willy: Dyno room first of the week :smash::rock: Ya I know the valve covers look skanky, but they'll be right.

Haven't seen anyone do this, so I figured I'd try to be different. :D I have a couple spare DZ 302's so why not put one to work!
The 302's are a love/hate engine, I have run them in a few different configurations and still have my stock 69 Z/28 with original DZ 302. They make decent power but can not pull a string out of a sick cats azz on the bottom end......so lots of revs and some steep gears will help that. What is your plan for a trans, cam and rear gear? BTW, you snatched this car right from under me....lol..I have property out in Amelia, minutes down the road. I just found 2 C2's sitting under a car port riding around out in western VA this weekend  need to follow up and see what the deal is on them. Keep the pics coming!!! R/ Jeff |

http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/a.../Longblock.jpg What hood are you planning to use? You "may" have some clearance issues with that intake and carbs. Good luck with your build. |
What size carbs?? I run 450's on my 355, and would think you'd want to stay small as well with even less cubes...?
