FLAC not available in stingray

does anyone care that the highest quality compressed music that can be put on a flash drive is not recognized by the stingray?

Sin City 12-27-2013 01:51 PM

No.

SCM_Crash 12-27-2013 01:52 PM

Not particularly.

I can't tell the difference between 256 kbit MP3 and FLAC. But I listen to Spotify which streams my music at 320 kbit. I also listen to XM which sounds "tinny" but not bad enough to care.

speedlink 12-27-2013 01:54 PM

Nope! Not in the least.

:iagree:

Anything above a 192kbit MP3 will probably be lost on the combination of:

A) Bose
B) It's a car, and a noisy one at that.

That said, all of my driving/Phone music is set to max VBR encoded MP3 which sounds great on everything. Sure a FLAC on a reference audio system that runs north of $50k in speakers may sound better, but I've got bigger fish to fry with the 30-40 years I have left in my life. :D

Rad22 12-27-2013 02:15 PM

Nope. I ordered mine with the optional NPP sound system. It rocks. You can actually feel the sound.

i just cut out the middle man and go and kidnap the bands and have them play live in my car. Makes it a lot easier then messing with usb ports and such.

I'm disappointed somewhat - Good thing most Android Phones have had .flac support since 2010 and AUX is just a plug away....

I don't think GM will take any FLAC for this....:hide::leaving:

there have been quite a few music compression schemes over the years. A car mfgr will try to be compatible with what's considered the most accepted industry standard; and right now that's not FLAC.

It doesn't matter what the local highschool kids are using
this month; as it's likely to be something different next month.

Zymurgy 12-27-2013 03:40 PM

Another vote for no - I don't care that it does not support FLAC. The rest of the sound system is certainly not "highest quality".

-CM- 12-27-2013 03:45 PM

I'm not disappointed. I think the sound system is adequate, but not great. (I have 3LT.) I wish a true hi-end system was offered as a separate option.

Snakiller 12-27-2013 04:15 PM

Huh uh. The Blows system is ok for listening to sports talk radio or traffic and weather, but that's about it.

I think you're only partially right.

Some types of music don't sound good on the system. But some types sound pretty good. I listen to all sorts of different types of music. I find that a lot of today's modern music sounds better than classic rock, for example.

I listen to electronica too, and that usually sounds the best on this sound system. But I suppose that's because there's a TON of highs and bass, with hardly any mids.

Is there a car anywhere that natively supports FLAC? I can't think of one.

If you really want lossless, convert your FLAC files of Apple Lossless or a high bit rate AAC file... no way you can tell the difference in a car with the high noise floor IMO.

It's a Corvette, not a Rolls Royce.
