Rumor has it 2015 Z06 (Z07 Package) is sub 7:08 at Ring

You heard it here 1st. Will bump this when info is released.

USAFPILOT 01-14-2014 07:51 PM

918 Spyder 6:57

7:08, an 11 second difference would be unbelievable. Where did you get this information? I think we would have heard about them testing it. There are always photographers there and you literally can not make the entire track private.

I went twice to the 24hours race and I'm going back in 2015. The Ring is a magical place. :)

Wow that'd be unreal

MeHeartCorvettes 01-14-2014 07:58 PM

Wow, the ZR1 was 7:26, correct?

BuddhaZ06 01-14-2014 08:00 PM

7:19 I believe. 7:22 z07

mattkilla2015 01-14-2014 08:00 PM

While this would be fantastic, gm stated the z is at the start of testing and have almost a year to improve and tweak it. That would mean it would get even lower times by the start of production which would be astonishing.

I believe it. The New Z is going to kick major ass!

Stingray23 01-14-2014 08:55 PM

I said it would do 7:12

GTB/ZR-1 01-14-2014 09:18 PM

If accurate--that's right in line w/ the Nismo Track GT-R which has run a 7:08.

But... $200k

phantasms 01-14-2014 09:22 PM

As I expected this is complete nonsense.

Tadge did a QA with Jalopnik readers today and this came up. Maybe he would keep quite about a specific time. However he straight up says the ring is a year away and I'm certain that's no lie.

The Z is already beating the ZR1 around Milford which is a short course. When you multiply a 1 - 2 second improvement like that (maybe more), over a 14 mile course like Ring, shaving 10 - 15 seconds is very doable. I mean, look at the Z...the grip and downforce is going to be ridiculous.

While it might seem crazy to compare the Z to these hybrid-hypercars, it needs to be noted that the power from these cars are derived from adding up the totals for both systems. It's not like they are 900 hp combustion engines alone and they aren't running 900 hp at once.

A big reason for the hybrid systems is to fill torque gaps, which these high-revving motors do not have. However, the Z has torque in spades. Not to mention, cars like the P1 couldn't even do a full lap at the Ring without the battery depleting so these kinds of systems are not giving the car the full benefit all of the time.

I think if you really evaluate the Z, it's going to lay down some ridiculous times. I would not be surprised to see it go near 7:05. It's going to be closer than people think to these hybrid-hypercars.

This does make sense on most tracks but it doesn't make sense at the Ring. A large part of the ring is the straight away at the very end of it. It's very long and you're on it for a while. I bet the Z07 with all the aero doesn't accelerate (100+mph) as hard as the ZR1 or end up going as fast on that straight. It makes a huge difference on the time. I'm guessing this thing just beats the ZR1 and comes in around ~7:15.

But I hope you're right!!!

7:02 (guess) Depends on the weight/power ratio. Stiffer frame, better rubber and get one of our pro drivers behind the wheel and maybe.

ParisTNDude 01-14-2014 10:02 PM

Dang...it's going to put a whoopin' on my C5 Z51 time of 10 min 20 seconds...lol.

I think with the aerodynamic improvements on the C7 Z06 we're almost guaranteed a time such as 7:08. It would be awesome if it were even better.

I watched the ZR1 video again and it looks like top speed on the ZR1 was right at 181. I can't believe that downforce would keep the C7 Z from easily reaching those speeds.

There's no rumor, it hasn't been to the Ring yet
