leather wrapped dash

Saw a forum advertiser redline I think it was that offered a leather wrapped dash. I was at a very high car show a few weeks ago. Not one of the cars was less than $150k and those were the cheap ones. Most were in the 250k-350k range well anyway looking at the lambos and several others I noticed the leather wrapped dashes with accent stiching and how awesome it looks. Has anybody used any of these leather wrapped dash kits and did they install themselves or have a upholstery shop do it? Would love to see some pics of the work and finished product.

I've seen some. They look as good as the quality of the install. Difficult to get a clean look throughout, especially at edges and dips. But if the installer is good at what he does, it can come out nice.

But how will they hold up in the sunshine?

I, too, like the look of a leather-wrapped dash. My concern, however, regards whether continued exposure to hot sunshine would cause the leather to fade, crack or otherwise prematurely degradate.

Leather-wrapped dashes are very costly to buy and time-consuming to install. I'd hate to have all that money and time wither away in the Texas summertime sun.

DIY leather dash kit? That would be cool if it was out there. Probably really hard, but would save a lot of $$

I have a Caddy SRX with what looks and feels like a leather dash.
It looks great with the stitching and all. But I am convinced that it is not leather but some other vinyl product which is just fine...as long as it looks like leather I am happy. True leather would just fry in the hot sun and in a short time look like craaap!

Dennis at DoubleDMods does this kind of work but it's not cheap. Little over $1K but the craftsmanship is terrific. I've had everything but the door side panels done in leather. Not sure about the dash though.

Forum vendor APsis also does the leather wrapped dash I believe. Outstanding craftsmanship but you do pay for it.

Most modern day leather dashes come from the factory with a sealant that has a UV protectant, much the same as the leather seats. Given proper maintentance and care they will last. My interior is being redone soon as all the pieces have already been leather wrapped by Dennis at DD (some pics below). I did not choose contrasting stiching as I wanted a more subtle look. It will be a daily driver, but does have a garage and I live in Florida. Window tint, though minimal on the windshield helps as well.

My 1974 T-Top had the Deluxe Leather interior, that was the most resilient part of my interior. While the formed parts looked old, the leather always looked great after a simple cleaning. I just sold it last November and the great looking leather was a key selling feature.

Wow! Those pieces look great! I bet the leather would help to mute some of the squeaks and rattles too.

I came across this http://www.ebay.com/itm/RED-STITCHING-CORVETTE-C5-1997-2004-TOP-DASH-DASHBOARD-LEATHER-SKIN-COVER-ONLY-/231135453968?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3ACorvette&hash=item35d0bf2310&vxp=mtr Probably a long shot, but I wonder if anyone on the forum has experience with it? I wonder how big of a PITA it would be to install...

I know i saw a vendor here that sells do it yourself leather everything for the inside of our cars. To be totally honest though to me anyway their pictures of completed pieces didn't look all that good to me. It looks like someone did it themsleves the best they could but ehhh lets just saw it looked good from afar but far from good. Now that one that Alx posted is perfect!!!

I came across this leather dash skin on eBay for $249 Probably a long shot, but I wonder if anyone on the forum has experience with it? I wonder how big of a PITA it would be to install...

I may be trying that out real soon. I bought an industrial sewing machine last year and did the center console and radio console but doing the dash seemed to difficult for my skill level so I left it stock

Looks neat, but the fact that its glued on concerns me a great deal; I'm thinking it will stand out from the regular dash, unless it's one big piece... But it looks like multiple pieces. Oh well- Looks cool in the photos.

Leather belongs on shoes and belts, not in cars, too much of a PIA and looks bad over time, even cared for. Shame you don't even have a different option on a Vette these days.
