Front Spoilers?

Okay so the approach to my Driveway is deep. Backing out the M/H leaves cuts in the street from the trailer hitch....Added Air Bags to fix that.

Now the Corvettes are different...They drag going in. The 1973 without a front Spoiler/Air Dam just clear. The 1993 and 1994 drag going in and backing out I I hate the sound.

So does the front spoiler/Air Dam really do anything...Remove it completely or maybe just take a cut off wheel and trim it up where it drags.

Thanks

Karsten

The front spoiler directs air flow up into the radiator area when going down the road. The stock design will flex and give, so it would be best to leave it alone.

The air deflector on my '84 got damaged about 20 years back running up to one of those concrete barriers they put in front of parking spaces. I removed it and never had any overheating problems so I'm not sure just how effective these are in re-directing air flow and improving cooling. You might try removing it and check if the running temperature is significantly affected by the change. A couple of degree increase shouldn't be a problem. On the other hand, if the fan(s) turn on when you're at highway speeds (A/C turned off), you probably will need to reattach it.

There are two versions of the front air dam. The Z51 version is 1" taller (hangs down 1" lower) than the stock one. If you have a Z51 car it might help to switch to the shorter version.

Where can I find the short front spoiler version for a non-Z51 1990? All my searching amongst the vendors turns up only the 4.25" tall version. Thanks.

I have one of these. Works good but I hate having to drag it back in place every couple of days.

The C5 spoiler is hinged..... you might research to see if the C5 spoiler will fit and perform.

Been considering drilling a couple holes and putting a spike or nail of sorts through to where I could still pull it up to get all the crap that gets under it. Leaves and dirt and whatever else...alot gets trapped under mine and is probably why it slides so much. That and the way I enter the drive from an angle.

The vette I am restoring was missing the front spoiler. The previous owner said it "runs better" without it.

I replaced it and there is a HUGE difference. Runs cooler and looks better.

I think it is an important part of the cooling system.

Wish someone would offer a shorter air dam assy for lowered C4's. Bet they would sell a bunch of them.

My way of dealing with this situation is to always keep a spare spoiler on hand and when the one on the car gets in bad shape I change it for the new one. They are not that expensive and Corvettemods has them on sale for $46.99 for all 3 pieces. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-g...e-46-99-a.html I just put a new one on this year and bought another spare from them. Maybe not a suitable solution for everyone but it works for me.
