I see them for sale, new car take offs! Why are they selling them?
 |
Because they know way more than the GM engineers.

My guess is because they likely replaced the wheels with wheels that are a different size (width) and couldn't use them.

May have something to do with their abysmal cold weather traction, if they are being sold from a cold winter locale.
|
I bought a set from a guy in Florida who replaced them with AS radials. He plans to drive to the northwest and was worried about possibly driving in the snow.
|
A Corvette heading from Florida to the Northwest in winter? A fellow I flew with in ancient times (early 1970's) in Fairbanks, Alaska, bought a new Corvette in 1971 or 72 and had it shipped up. It didn't move from September until mid May! Talk about a diehard!

I'm in the camp that believes they were replaced with tires that are safe to drive on when the temps drop below 40 degrees.

My c6 GS would not have hesitated to take it to work today. C7 no way. |

"This vehicle was not originally equipped with winter tires. Winter tires are designed for increased traction on snow and ice-covered roads. Consider installing winter tires on the vehicle if frequent driving on snow or ice-covered roads is expected." And this..... "High Performance Summer Tires This vehicle may come with P245/ 40ZR18 and P285/35ZR19, or P245/35ZR19 and P285/30ZR20 high performance summer tires. These tires have a special tread and compound that are optimized for maximum dry and wet road performance. This special tread and compound will have decreased performance in cold climates, and on ice and snow. We recommend installing winter tires on the vehicle if frequent driving at temperatures below approximately 5°C (40°F) or on ice or snow covered roads is expected." |
Thats why if you live in snow you need a snow car or a 4x4. Summer tires on 2 cars PNW no issues. If I lived in snow country, a corvette would not even be on my radar in the winter. But I applaud those diehards…;)

Maybe because they're so damn sticky, which, in and of itself isn't a bad thing, but the fact that they throw gravel and demolish the paint is another story.

maybe its because everytime you turn the wheel at low speed, the car feels like its falling apart. LOL

Are you referring to the C7 owners who read what the GM engineers had put in the owners manual?

so, ponder this. do gm "engineers" really think that when actually driving on ice, the type of tire you have makes a difference? do they actually allow these guys to drive on a real highway? sad, very sad.
