09 Tahoe...Hybrid 6.0 or 6.2?

I'm considering a Tahoe...trying to decide between Hybrid 6.0 and regular 6.2.

Other than the city mpg's being lower for the 6.2, the highway miles are close enough for me to call them the same.
Any thoughts? Anybody with a hybrid model to give some insight?

I'm just nervous about buying a used hybrid and potential battery issues.

I'm pretty sure that a 09 Tahoe only had either a 4.8 or 5.3 in it.

I think I'd be more worried about the CVT transmission in the hybrid than the batteries.

Personally, I'd just get the 5.3L and not worry about it. It's reliable and powerful, and the main reason to buy a GM truck or SUV.

I'd get the 6.2L. I've always thought the 5.3L was very puny. Especially with the weight you are moving. The 6.2L will give you the same kind of acceleration Dodge and Ford SUV's enjoy with their more powerful V8 and 3.5TT offerings. I actually did not know that the 6.2L motor existed in the Tahoe or I would have considered one instead of my WK. It also comes with the 6L80E. I am not 100% sure which motor or transmission my Dad's work-van has, but I believe it to be the 5.3L and the 4L80E, or 4L85E, and he has around 400K miles on both, and he is one of those "I'd rather floor it and get ahead of you than coast and get behind you" drivers on on-ramps, etc. He doesn't beat his vehicles, but they do see WOT and he does drive them. This has lasted longer than any of his Ford 4.6L's in cars. GM makes a very solid V8 and auto trans. You won't go wrong with either combo, but the 5.3L is just dismal at motivating and SUV in my opinion. Screw a CVT. Don't do that.

Thanks. Forgot about that CVT 4-speed in the Hybrid....you're definitely right about that. I'm thinking I'd rather have the truck cousin to my C6 more and more...LS3/6L80

...and for the record, the base Tahoes have a 5.3. The top LTZ model that I'm looking at comes with the 6.2

If I had known the LTZ's had that driveline, I might have considered one instead of my Jeep. It's a great driveline.

6.2 in a Tahoe is rare - definitely go that route.

If you want an easier way to get the 6.2L there's always the Yukon Denali and Escalade. Oddly enough, they're very similarly priced.

Comparing these two routes, the Escalade usually works out better. More standard features (depending on package and year) = Mag Ride, Xenons.

However, the Tahoe offered the selectable 4x4 I believe in this year range, so you weren't always burdened by dragging the front wheels around. The Tahoe is a little less bling, bling which sometimes works better depending on career and daily use...

Regardless, the latest GMT SUV has priced itself over the moon. The Suburban LTZ I saw on the lot was sporting a $73,700 price tag :eek: Makes these GMT900s looks like bargains in the 20-30k range.

4.8 is the base engine for Tahoe's. I have to see the link for a 6.2.

The 6.2 Tahoe's are very, very rare rigs. They were only available in 2009 and only for a few months. When they started to cannibalize Yukon Denali and Escalade sales, Chevrolet pulled the plug quick. Pick one up if you have the chance.

I had a 6.2 in a escalade and it loved gasoline and after it left me stranded I traded it

I believe you could get an '08 but only in 2wd. For '09 I think it was only 4x4...

Well I guess I learned something here. I thought you could'nt get the 6.2 in the Chevys until like 2012, guess I was wrong.

I have a 09 Sierra Denali that I bought new but also shopped the 09 Silverado Hybrid. Things to know about Hybrid. It uses the old 6.0 Liter motor!! It's only on battery power from 0-30 MPH. So it depends on your drive style, lots of traffic jam traffic?, then I would do the Hybrid. This was not my case so I passed on it. Not to mention it carried aprox 5K Higher Sticker price than a similar equipped truck.

Just as everyone else said, the LQ9 is a wonderful motor and a pleasure to drive with the 6sp. I wouldn't want the SUV version with nothing but a 6.2!!!
