cleaned air filter, now getting new AC condenser

Just and FYI on the air filter cover bolts. When you change/clean your air make sure the plastic cap/knob is not backing off the metal screw/shaft. If it backs off about 1/2 inch you will poke a hole in the condenser when you reinstall the air filter housing.

I assume this happened when you closed the hood?

nope, plastic knob does not sit higher when installed the shaft is further into the radiator housing and comes in contact with the condenser when tightened.

Hmm. My '85 has a little sheet of metal, like a clip on the stud for the knobs that prevents it from falling down.

I wish the later C4's had it, my 94 is just a plastic knob with a one inch length that the 3 inch screw pressed into it. over time the screw started to pull out and got longer.

Thanks for the heads up, I have a K&N filter to put in my 94 soon.

That is GMs way of informing the driver that his air filter is not sealing. When the air conditioner stops working, the owner pops the hood and looks around. This could save an engine lol.

The PO installed an SLP claw and I didn't realize the bolts had "backed out" a little. I also tightened down the bolts one day and poked a hole in my condenser. Ouch :ack:

I did the same thing, wasn't happy. We're you able to have it repaired? Or you bought a new one? I haven't addressed mine yet.

The condenser is easy to fix. Use the product and a propane tourch! All other torches are too hot and alloy wont adhere. You can use this stuff to attach dissmiller metals to each other, I get some on my work bench at all times. The alloy melts at 600 degrees and the product is by cecil muggy co. Look up the website. Product is SUPER ALLOY 5
