What is the best option for garage floors?
 

Anyone out there have any expertise with what to put on a garage floor to make it look real nice? bought a house last year and it was all covered in oil spots. Bought an expoxy thing from lowes but it is now flaking off everywhere! Anyone have a brand they like? Or rubber mats or anything?

I'm planning on using Race Deck flooring

If you did the epoxy covering, you needed to do an acid wash to prep the floor for good adhesion from what I have heard.

The oil stains are a problem area.

If you want to go the Race Deck type plastic tiles, the Costco Motofloor is made by Racedeck but is their low end product that they don't sell directly. They have it on sale about every 3 months or so through costco dot com. It just has fewer bumps on the surface which I find easier to clean and it's about half the cost. I've had it 6 years and it's holding up fine. :)

Very happy with my Racedeck floor. They also run promos throughout the year. Contact them if interested and see what kind of deal they can make you. They're easy to deal with and have great cust svc.

You didn't say how big the garage is, the condition of the cement, and how much you are looking to spend.

There are some professional companies that can do an amazing job but will be expensive. I use the Rustoleum product from Homo Depot. It lasts me a couple of years but I have heard that if you do the clearcoat afterwards then it is bullet proof (I might try this time). My two cents...

Just a standard 2 car garage. Wasn't looking to spend more than $500 so I think the racedeck is out. I didnt do an acid wash or a clear coat so that might have been my problem! Thanks for all the suggestions

The epoxy from HD or Lowes will last a long time IF you clean and acid wash the floor first. I've had it on mine for close to 10 years and it's finally time to redo it. It won't last at all without that.

if you want to keep under $500 then redo and prep better this time - I don't know how you plan to take off the existing paint

Costco has a Gray diamond plate looking rubber / vinyl . Comes on a roll for $160 +. Two of them will do most of your garage floor. If I remember they are 20 'x 12' It is easy to clean up most wet substances. Just roll it out and your done.
The hot tire marks do stain it as well, or it's from tire dressing.
Just one of many choices out there. It's hard to say any one product is the best.
I would like to do tile but with MI. winters and the salt. I just don't trust it.

I did my garage floor with plastic tiles. It's held up very well over the past 6 years. For my 20' x 20' it cost about $450 for the tiles and the trim pieces.

Just don't get that stuff they used at the NCM... it just didn't hold up.

I've done TONS of research on garage floor options. From epoxy, to concrete polishing, to staining, to vinyl tiles...

I eventually went with RaceDeck flooring. No regrets, none.

Floor holds up well, when its cleaned it looks awesome.

One concern many have spoke about was the "sound" of walking on it (cause its a plastic composite). Well, yes initially I heard it cause it was new, new to my ears... Ask me now about the "sound".. and my response will be.....What sound, what are you talking about?

As far as epoxy, way to many variables to compromise its adherence.

I love the look of the red and black checker I put down some cheap foam interlocking tiles from H.F. meant more to stand on than drive on did it for winter storage I don,t know if the,ll hold up on a daily bases in and out time will tell

I really like the RaceDeck, but can't get around the thought of spending $3,000 for garage flooring. Plus, we have a drain in the middle and the floor slopes toward it from every direction; I don't think the RaceDeck would like that very much.

Don't forget actual tile option - this is porcelain tile (pei 5). Put down over 3 years ago and not one crack. I work on my cars with it and have dropped tools. Never have to worry about epoxy coming up, etc- wash it out, or mop it and it's as good as new. Picked it up at Lowes on clearance for $450 and had some guys lay it down. 800 sq ft. Total cost - $1600.
