WTB : Quadrajet, between '76 and '79
 

OK maybe a long shot but has anybody got an unmolested not rebuilt Quadrajet 7045222 for sale ?

Otherwise a Quadrajet that came installed on a corvette between '76 to '79 and that came from an automatic.

Or another good unchanged Original Rochester quadrajet close to that year ( 75-79 ) that will work on a 1975 L48 with Automatic.

What I do have is carburetor 17057213, which is a '77 truck carburetor. It should work just fine for your application, if you are unsure, you could check with Lars.

Thanks for the offer but i would prefer going with a carb that came from a corvette. I see that the truck has remote choke too and I don't wanne start messing with different connections etc.

Look for any 1975 - 1979 Chevy passenger car carb. The '76 - '79 carbs are preferable, since they have a much better APT system than the '75.

The carb pictured by Pete is a commercially rebuilt carb, and should not be used (nice offer from Pete, but the carb is not rebuildable due to the damage from the commercial builder).

Well... that's disappointing! What is the giveaway that it is a commercially rebuilt carb? I picked it up at a swap meet eons ago to practice rebuilding, but never touched it.

I have a Q Jet from a 1975 Corvette L48 with the following codes: 7045222 R6 1215. If interested I can take pics and post them.

Depending on what you want to pay...I have a NOS still in box and wrappers....
17058228 is the part number. This part number was used specifically for L82 corvettes with an automatic transmission and AC. 2287 is the date code. This type of date code is read as 228 = day of the year, so 228th day of 1977 was August 16th. And the last number, 7, is always the year. So in this case 1977.

I realize that this is an old thread, and I missed this question when it was posed many months ago. The answer, though, is still relevant for those wanting to identify these commercial rebuild jobs. On Pete's carb, there are 3 easy tell-tale signs that the carb has been commercially rebuilt (the commercial carbs are severely hacked internally, and are generally not good candidates for use or rebuild - for a complete run-down on the commercial carbs, drop me an e-mail request for my "Commercially Rebuilt Carb Problems" paper):

1. Incorrect hardware installed throughout carb - Phillips-head screws in airhorn, and zinc plated hardware installed in carb. The commercial builders love Phillips screws, and they use silver zinc plated screws. Original hardware was slotted head, and all the screws were black phosphate coated.

2. Rochester 2-barrel accelerator pump ball retaining pin installed in the float bowl vent. The commercial builders press these "T-Pins" into the bowl vent to prevent idiots from jamming the carb stud down the bowl vent and puncturing the float. There are some reputable builders that do this, too, so it's possible the carb could have been built by a top-notch guy with the T-Pin installed (Henry Olsen installs the pins, and he's a very good builder). But this is not likely a Henry Olsen carb...

3. Stripped plating. All the plating has been stripped and sandblasted off the linkages and carb surfaces, and this has resulted in everything being corroded. The commercial builders blast and strip everything to give the carb a uniform appearance as it's sold in the box. With the platings stripped, the carb then corrodes and looks like crap within 30 days of being installed on the engine. This does not affect the performance of the carb, per se, but it's a sign that the carb has likely been hacked internally by the builder.

If that "8228" QJet hasn't been snapped up I might be interested, depending on your asking price. I realize that your sale posting is over 7 years old and, like, what are the chances??

Lars helped me find a carb on ebay for my 81 vette. I purchased it then had it drop shiped to lars. he rebuilt it for me. all i can say best money i have spent in years.
