shock replacement

Hey all, just a quick question about the c5s shocks. I've been driving around recently and the road feels so hard. I was thinking about replacing the stock c5 shocks and getting them at the parts store. Although I heard that if you get c6's the ride feel better/smother and that they are a better shock altogether? I do not do any auto cross, just want a smooth ride. If I get the c6's do I have to do any modification to them? Or do they fit the same as the c5 stock shocks? Also My c5 does not have ride controll.

My two cents; you're lucky you don't have the ride control. God are those expensive to replace. My '04 still has it's factory shocks on it and I think they're about due as well. My '98 had Bilstein Sports on it and I loved the way they rode. But those may be a little harsher riding than what you're looking for. They're not a bad price for an upgraded shock over your over the counter parts store shocks either.

The C6Z 2012 is an exact fit. I did this upgrade about 4mos. ago on my 01 and I'm very satisfied with the ride. I also did the C6Z sway bars and end links at the same time. All parts bought from GM Partshouse. A CF vendor.

I just went with the C6Z as well. I think my ride improved over the factory shocks w/85k on them. The problem is that everyone's opinion differs on what constitutes as a "rough" ride.

The C6 Z06 shocks fit perfectly and will give your car a very nice ride. Gmpartshouse has them at a very good price.

General rules of thumb: New shocks for every 40-50K miles or two sets of tires.
Normally OEM's last 30-40k at best.

My first question is - are you running run flats? Changing shocks may be the only option to a better ride. My .02¢

No, honestly I ever saw the benefit of putting run flats on. Just Firestone's

Run flats were used from GM to avoid having a spare tire.

I'm putting on the C6Z shocks this weekend, and will be sure to put up a thread regarding the install and results. Here's to hoping for no seized bolts :smash:

I have Billsteisna and Michelin run flats - - it's not the softest ride.

I'd suggest going to NAPA - - best deal out there.

I guess it all depends on what type of driving you intend to do I now other vette owners that just put Monroe senser trac shocks and are happy but they drive it as if it were there family car or to work no performance needed so if that's you there's your option. and if you remove the run flats your ride will improve greatly as long as you stay away low profile tires.

I have an 03 with the sport-touring select suspension. Do you have to replace those shocks with the stock set up ? I don't see why you would have to.

I am about to order a set of the C6 shocks along with the z51 sway bars myself. Will post on the result once I complete the install.

Made the change last year (along with metal end links). Couldn't be happier with the handling. A great improvement at a good price. Good choice.
