tire, 345 m&h or MT?

your experiences and which do you prefer? recently just burned through a set of hoosier dot radials in one day and was not impressed.

looking at a 345 35 18 m&h or a mickey thompson. whats your impressions of each? which did you prefer and recommend?

car is currently making 700, and 930 on the sauce for reference

Figured that but what brand ?

I have MTs, 345/30/18 mounted on 18x11 widened OEM wheels stuffed into my narrow body C6

So far I have put about 3k miles on them. They hook pretty well. With my boost controller I am making about 800 in 1st, 900 in second and they hook pretty well.I am still spinning slightly when temps are 60* or below.

They handle decent. I have not pushed them like my old Toyo R888s but they feel stable at high speeds without any wobble.

I don't have any experience with the MH so hopefully someone using them can chime in.

I love M&H's about equal on the track but the M&H is better on the street.

Unreal 04-23-2014 09:50 AM

I was going to say M&H for track, MT for street.

For mile racing, no idea. Either are probably ok. My MTs will hold 2nd at ~900rwhp with my centri car on a warm day. Squirms a little but TC never kicks on.

Loving these m&h dead hook 1st

JoeyG 04-23-2014 11:29 AM

I've ran both on my C5. The m&H is an awesome tire but physically it's like a 1/2" taller and narrower than the MT (which I enjoy track/road). Even though they're listed as the same size, just keep that in mind. If I went back to a 345/35/18 it would be the MT because of size in my application.

i run the mt 3788r and love em. giving em a hard tym and they still holding together well at 750whp

I would talk to some of the other guys doing the 1/2 mile and 1 mile events and see what they are using for 18" tires. Last thing you want is sway at 180mph+. Another option is swapping your rear brakes to the base brakes to fit smaller wheels just for the events and then putting your ZR1 brakes back on after the event.

i was thinking about swapping the brakes but im to lazy and already have the 18" wheels lol. i need to save some cash to invest in a 108 tb and make a new intake before buying some new brakes and wheels :(

i ran the 335 30 18 hoosier radials at 20 lbs and did 174 this past weekend and they were pretty stable, they hooked like **** after 3-4 runs but didnt sway much. they spun through 5th. i brought my r888s on my other set of rears and ran those at 24 lbs and they hooked much better and were more stable. I'm thinking with the taller tire it should help traction and gearing quite a bit though which is why im leaning twords the MT or MH

i have my forged 360 wheels up for sale currently though so if those move ill probably get a set of ccw's and do an 18 front skinny and a 17 rear and clearence the stock caliper down. theres a couple people running around on welds in a 17 on the rear on the zr1s

jon6.0 04-23-2014 12:59 PM

A 17" rear would help a bit I would think. Is your nitrous controller progressive so you can hit it early with less and ramp up the shot as you go through the gears? Rear wheel drive can only get you so far though. My thought is to sell my C6 when Joe is done with it and I enjoy it for a few months. Then start looking at used Gallardo's. I found a few nice ones for mid $80's. I want a tradition six speed one though and those are pretty rare it seems. I also need to do some more research about them before I commit to that idea. I'll also probably need to buy a new horse trailer before that happens so my wife doesn't flip out over it.

no its a straight 200 hit haha, A progressive would help a good amount to, might look into one next go around in mods. i was thinking about that to before i bought the vette but as it stands i cant afford to build one or maintain a gallardo. id be more apt to do a motec and have a bad ass traction control set up before jumping ship just do to the ease of maintaining these cars and cost of repairs being affordable.

that being said those cars are crazy, i ran the ob prestige heffner tt for sh!ts n gigs out there this weekend and just seeing how hard he pulled away was wild

Maybe its the instant hit of the bottle but I am similar in power boosted and love my 335 hoosiers. They do especially well at the track for me too.

I would think besides the tire manufacturer change, you'll gain some traction down low just from the height change.
Good luck!

even off spray they were spinning through 4th (only making 690's off spray) i think they just didnt agree with the dust and asphalt out there on the airstrip

after 11 passes down there, alignment was off a tad but still it just tore the rubber up

Proace4 04-23-2014 03:07 PM

WOW!! lol that is bad. Ive had the same set on my car for all of T2K14, couple of weekend trips to neighboring towns, and mine only look maybe down to 75%. I got about 4000 miles out of my last set. Granted I know that the 1/4 pass life span is different than the airstrip life span.

Proace4 04-23-2014 03:09 PM

Really surprised by your traction issues though man. I wish they made a taller set! lol Something like a 325/40/17? or 325/40/18?

realcanuk 04-23-2014 03:19 PM

M&H 325 / 45 / 17 works well for me. I haven't tried others in a similar size to compare though.
