ngk TR6 is stock heat range for stock z06

Read the forum a lot and kept hearing tr6 ngk is step colder for cammed z06s...I called ngk and they said tr6 is stock heat range for a stock z06. So I put in tr7ix . Chose iridium because stock plugs were iridium... I had tr6 in the car. The car seems to like the new plugs all around...My tr6 were only 3 months old and 1,000 miles on them..Just thought id post because I thought tr6 was colder .

interesting. I know everyone including me has used tr6's forever... I don't know much about the difference it would provide but curious to do more research... being a GM tech I normally use the stock ones in cars and all the performance builds I do I use tr6's but maybe I need to change it up?

That's what I gathered from reading ...That's why im posting this...call ngk ....either way car likes them so far

I went to TR6 ix. Need to get it dyno tuned again. Found out my car had TR5's in it, which is too hot even for stock. Made 544 rwhp on TR5's (before I found out) and it couldn't take much timing.

That's why I am using Denso IT-22.

I changed to ngk tr6ix about a year ago in my stock 08 z06. No more ping under hard throttle.

So...

Is the stock plug a TR6 or TR5 ?

Unreal 05-09-2014 04:13 PM

Stock plug isn't NGK but it would be a ~6 range in AC delco form.

Shoot me a PM...sorry don't know the screen name so hard for me to pull the info on it.

Typically we run 11.4 to 11.6 compression on most street setups and with that cam I would generally run a 7 heat range plug from NGK.
