I'd say it's even more serious.

Looks like Florida tags, this is why we can't leave our cars anywhere unattended for more than five minutes down here.

DocHolliday 05-10-2014 05:48 AM

disgusting...:ack:

Probably one of those in South Beach. I hope they used pucks to jack it up...

MikeC4C5C6...C7 05-10-2014 07:16 AM

Do wheel locks work or have the thieves solved that?

Thanks.

1bdvet 05-10-2014 07:24 AM

Sad, that we can't have anything nice these days, others just want it more then you.

Wheel thieves generally don't bother to jack up the car. It's much easier than that...

They merely stack lumber or concrete blocks under the car, let enough air out of the tires to allow the car to settle onto the blocks, then remove the tires and wheels without any difficulty and leave your car sitting on blocks...if you're lucky.

Two guys can do it in less than three minutes.

Any locks can be easily beat. They are just a deterant to lazy crooks. Because of the uniqueness of these wheels perhaps that will bust the slobs when they go to boost them.

What a sad commentary on our society. Their parents would be so proud of them.

CRABBYJ 05-10-2014 07:47 AM

Just noticed, those were Non-Z51 wheels that were hijacked. Chrome? Most likely just an opportunity theft. Sad.:ack:

While it might not matter, add this to the thread of Disadvantages of a 1LT, no Tilt sensor!

LIE2ME 05-10-2014 08:20 AM

Time for that aftermarket wheel upgrade...

Would that method work with a runflat tires?

John Micheal Henry 05-10-2014 08:22 AM

The sob thief has a lead shortage in his blood. A couple of 230 grain Gold Dot 45 acp would fix that sorry bast--d right up. I realize you can't shoot the sorry thief for stealing your wheels and tires but I'd sure be hard pressed not to if I were to catch them. Sorry for your loss. Hope your insurance pays up quickly..

rcooper 05-10-2014 08:54 AM

Such a shame, having a real problem in Austin with tire/wheel theft. One dealer lost over 100 wheel/tires a short while ago. The police think that the thieves have the keys to wheel locks, maybe some thugs who work for a tire dealer. This is worthy of buckshot in the butt.

Yup, since run-flats deform like any other tire if not enough air is in them. I've had this happen a few times. A flat, that is, not wheel theft.

No. I was going to comment on that as well. In fact, even without run flats I doubt if it's very easy. The tires would not just fold up, they would still have pretty strong contact with the ground without the car actually being raised.

Jontall 05-10-2014 09:03 AM

I suggest that everyone get wheel locks... They aren't perfect, but it will slow the thieves down.
