OPTIMA Presents Corvette of the Week: The 454 Dream

https://www.corvetteforum.com/wp-con...rvette-454.jpg

Here at Corvette Forum, we often talk about how American Corvettes are. The iconic vehicle is one of America's most treasured possessions; after all, it's not just an American sports car ... it's America's sports car. The Corvette and the overused, but oh-so-expressive slang term "'Merica" go together like kittens and YouTube, the words "free" and "stuff", and hot sauce and chicken wings. With that, it's safe to say the Corvette has a minimal risk of having it's 'Merica card revoked, but there's one specific type of Corvette that may be more American than America itself: any Corvette with a 454 sitting beneath the fiberglass.

I owned a 73 454 numbers matching-white corvette/red interior in Richardson, Texas in the mid 80's. Always regretted selling that car. It had 50k original miles on it when I had it. I can't tell if your interior is red or tan. I sold it around 1987 I think to a collector. I don't think I have any papers that would help me be certain that this is the car-but when I saw Rockwall, Texas-it makes me wonder.

The car was in pretty good shape when I bought it. Had worn carpet from T-top water leaks. fixed all of that. The carbureator was interesting had it rebuilt a couple of times and then gave up and was lucky enough to order a brand new correct carb from the Chevy dealer. HUGE difference.

It was a fun car-did overheat once in a while-but other then that just plain fun! I had sold my 69 Z28 before I bought this car. Good memories. Need to get back into it-miss a good car.

Sounds like one cool ride boomer. Mine is a deluxe saddle interior...so I'm afraid she's not quite a match to your old ride. I will keep a look out though!

Great looking car. Welcome to the forum.

pschif8480 06-04-2014 11:33 AM

Great looking car and I am sure it sounds stout and is wicked fast. I have a black 71' coupe with the L-88 hood and a 454 Mark IV stroked to a 496, solid roller lifters with an agressive cam, also with a TH400 and a Hurst Quarter Stick. . My car is a pro street build (just put side pipes on it), but your 73' looks sleek and clean (and numbers matching, great!) and I like the look of the luggage rack on the back. Congrats!
