Originally thought to be 625 HP and 635 pound/feet of torque. Now up to 650! I'm excited and I'm not even buying one.

GordyRay 06-05-2014 11:08 PM

I am looking forward to driving it to work every day

Wow, this is got to be America's Dream Sports Car.
650 squared. That is so cool.
Tires are gonna cost, oh well, fun to be had.
Thanks for sharing the great news.
:salute:

Stunt 06-05-2014 11:18 PM

Wow!

Look at that torque curve. 500 lb-ft at 1500 rpm and 600 lb-ft at 2500 rpm. Craziness I say!

So redline appears to be 6400 rpm.

RapidC84B 06-05-2014 11:20 PM

Wow... guess GM "learned" from only delivering 460 on the Stingray when many were expecting more. This time they underpromised :yesnod:

650/650 with 500 ft/lbs at 1500 rpms and a 5 year 100k warranty... wow.

SBC_and_a_stick 06-05-2014 11:23 PM

This car would actually move faster with a higher redline, 7000 rpm would be nice. I bet if GM released it with a 650 650 7000 trio it would satisfy everyone.

That is F*%&)#_@ Awesome I am impressed, approx. 50 more ft lbs of torque than a C6 ZR1, that rocks!!

And don't think its a coincidence that the new Z06 squeaks out 10 more HP than the new Vipers making 640 HP that are just sitting on dealer lots and have a less aggressive look than the 2008 to 2010 SRT 10 Vipers. VERY smart GM!

With an automatic and drag radials this baby will rip off high 10 second ets all day long, BONE STOCK, what a GAS that will be! In a few years I see me in one of these bad boys and my arthritic knees will force me into the automatic tranny 10 second rocket ship model. :D

That extra 500 rpms of range creates a bunch of additional forces to deal with. Easier to validate the car at 6500.

Hirohawa 06-05-2014 11:36 PM

That torque curve is insane.

The bottom end should be fine. It has a good bore/stroke ratio. GM most likely does not want to deal with dropped valves.

jdmvette 06-05-2014 11:56 PM

wow...someday...sigh.

Can't wait- Thanks for posting!

Can we get our hands on SAE articles for the LT line of engines somewhat cheaper? I wouldn't mind paying $10/pop.

turbotuner20v 06-06-2014 12:27 AM

It might rev to 7k.

They cut off the power curves at peak hp. The ls7 line would go to 7k

SBC_and_a_stick 06-06-2014 12:40 AM

I found the official release:
http://www.corvetteblogger.com/docs/...tedat650hp.pdf

650hp @ 6400 rpm
650 lb/ft @ 3,600 rpm

For non-U.S. folks that is 485kw and 881 newton meters.

So yes, it appears as though it makes peak power at an awesome 6400rpm. That means this motor is meant to be revved to redline! C'mon GM, set the 7000 rpm bar!!

Sweet numbers, looking forward to a shark grey beast down the road...already had Tadge helping with the accessory list at Monterey :)

ivanjo11 06-06-2014 12:50 AM

Wow huge numbers that thing is going to be a rocket.

Only the hybrids are realistically more powerful and that's when the batteries are charged.

Posted this months ago after a run in with a GM engineer taking a C7 test mule out for the weekend that openly told me the 650 number. A few of you didn't bash me too badly. Glad to see I wasn't smoking something that day.

Don't forget about that belt driven supercharger. And they're spinning it faster than ever before. Don't expect to see this torque monster going 7000.
