Had my new Corvette for 2 days, then this...

I brought home my new Crystal Red Corvette on July 1.

Then on July 3rd, this is what my new corvette looks like.

I had it out earlier in the day because I was taking it to the dealer because a headlight wasn't working. Awesome, right? I wanted to see if it could be drivable at night for the holiday weekend. Well they didn't have time to fix it because it apparently is a lot of work to get to.

I went to my shop to do a dyno tune on a GTO, and it went nice and smooth. On the way back the skies started darkening, but it looked like I was going to beat the rain no problem. Well I did beat the rain, but I didn't beat the wind.

A car couldn't negotiate an intersection near my house, stopped when they weren't supposed to. Then a branch fell on the front of my vette and I started flooring it to get out of there. And BOOM. I hear the crash of the rear window breaking to pieces. I immediately floored it to get away from what could be a collapsing tree. I was a block away from my house, immediately put it in the garage... furious.

I went back in my Yukon not too long after to take pictures of what fell on me. It was a much bigger limb than I expected. I spoke with the neighbors of the property who saw the whole thing. They let me know that there is no one who lives in that house anymore. The property whose tree fell on me is foreclosed on, and condemned due to safety reasons. Might not be a bad thing because I'm pretty sure a bank owns it now.

So far what I can tell the damage is as follows:
Transparent Roof - Cracked
Roof Panel Between Transparent roof and Hatch - Paint Damage
Trunk glass - destroyed
Trunk Lid - Paint Damage
Drivers Door - Paint Damage
Rear Drivers Quarterpanel - Broken Fiberglass
Rear Bumper - Paint Damage
Rear Wing - little scratched
Rear Passenger Side Quarter Panel - Paint Damage
Passenger Door - Paint Damage
Passenger Mirror - Paint Damage
Hood - Paint Damage
Driver side Fender - Paint Damage
Windshield - Deep Scratches
Gas Fill Cap - Paint Damage

I've got roughly 280 miles on her total. I haven't even put gas in her yet.

I guess it could have been worse. That limb which came crashing down on me (and broke into the two pieces) could have went straight through the transparent top and took me out.

So much for getting her to the track sometime soon...

Andrew

Oh I feel so bad for you. I know how much of our personal lives we have invested in our Corvette's. I know this won't ease the trauma but it is fixable. However I'm am glad no one was injured. Stay Calm and Carry On.

I hope the rest of your Independence Day weekend helps ease the pain.

So sorry man but it can be fixed and the branch did not whack you putting you in the hospital or worse..

AORoads 07-04-2014 08:17 AM

Terrible, but I have to agree w. above post and say that, in a way, that car may have saved your life or injury. I usually ride in a convertible w. the top down....just imagine being in that. Not even a first tank of gas put in yet, that really is a new, new car. Sorry to see this but glad that you weren't hurt. Good luck with the repairs and I think it will be as good as new.

I did get my favorite picture of the car before the damage...

I am sorry this happened to you and glad you are ok.
Very nice color and a great looking car, you will get it fixed up like new again.
I had a tree limb fall on a 72 El Camino right after I had spent several weeks painting it black, I had just spent about 25 hours wet sanding and buffing it out. I pulled out into a field to take some pictures and all of a sudden this very large limb came crashing down and landed right across the hood and windshield. :( It was a tough pill to swallow but I fixed it and everything turned out great.

reason enough to be thankful this weekend. Your cruising buddy is what's important.

All that damage to your brand new car absolutely sucks, but at least you are OK. Good luck with getting the car repaired.

SRQStingray 07-04-2014 08:36 AM

Really sad to see that happen to your new Vette. I hope it gets fixed soon and looks as good as the day you got it.

I'm sure it's hard to even look at your car the way it is now but this picture should make the pain subside. Awesome photo!! Very sorry to hear what happened and I'm glad you're ok. Hopefully you can get her back to new very soon.

redstar299 07-04-2014 08:57 AM

I was actually using my flipflop (size 11) to give a scale of how big the limb was that fell on my car. I'm sure it looked funny as I hopped away to take the picture lol.

sandu002 07-04-2014 08:59 AM

Andrew, as stated it can be fixed. Glad the little one was not in the car when it happened.

BTW, glad you got Bart's GTO done in time for the rally.

fredl11 07-04-2014 09:02 AM

AH GEEZZ!! That REALLY SUCKS

Sorry it happened

Yea...Chester County always seems to get hit the hardest, when S.E PA has thunderstorms.

Less than a half hour after that tree came down, the winds make a kite out of my tied down
car cover.

beachcomber 07-04-2014 09:11 AM

I'd be sick about it too. Glad you're ok....for your little ones sake. As others have said, it'll get fixed. Wishing you the best and get humpty back together again!

W88fixer 07-04-2014 09:53 AM

Glad you’re not injured. Like that paint color.

Hope you have good luck getting parts, a week and counting on a passenger seat switch. Don

This is what I truly call bad luck.

It's a machine -- it can be fixed. Good luck getting it back on the road soon.

Take heart though. I saw just a month ago a Ferrari 355 completely flattened by a tree that fell over on it. Some city workers were trimming it and == timber! It could be worse and we are happy no one was hurt.

MikeC4C5C6...C7 07-04-2014 10:47 AM

Good body shop will get it fixed good as new. My C6 got hit by 95 Buick about a month before I got C7. Fixed it and sold to a friend. He can't see any evidence of damage (nor do I).

This, too, shall pass.

Best wishes.
