How long did you wait for your 1st Corvette?

Just curious. Did anyone wait as long as I did?

I saw my first Corvette, (a new 1958), in 1958.
It was a high school graduation gift to a guy I knew who was 17 years old. I was 15 at the time.
It was given to him by his wealthy contractor father.
As you can imagine, everyone in school was seething with jealousy!

After raising a family, paying for several houses and mortgages, putting 2 girls through college, etc., etc., I finally got my first 'vette delivered in January, 2013.

A brandy new Grand Sport. It took me 55 years to realize the dream.

I'm certain most of you didn't have to wait nearly that long.

I'm still smilin' ....

As my screen name suggests, I got my first vette at 42. And I started low.... a c4, 1991 convertible. Enjoying driving it for sure, anticipate keeping it about 2 years before looking to move up to a c5.

Enjoy!

My dad has always loved the 63 split window coupe so naturally I too loved corvettes. He never had one, always too practical, but I must not have gotten the practical gene as I recently purchased a used 2012 GS as my DD at the ripe old age of 25 :) I only had to wait a measly 15 years to buy my first vette so I consider myself very lucky/blessed.

First one in 1979, it was a '78, at age 23 after my mother had a short lived experience owning a '65 convertible small block in '65 when I was 8. I loved that car and wanted one after my first ride in it. She didn't like it because it had a 4 speed, clearly I did not get my car genes from her side of the family! So I guess I waited 15 years to scratch the itch. I got my second in 1980 it was a '79 then I didn't get another one until 2009. Now I am on number six which may well be my last because I can't see me ever parting with this 427 'vert!

You are old!

Two years younger than me doesn't even count, and besides, at least I can spell "thought", and "bought".

From dream to reality it took 25 years. I bought in Switzerland 2005 a 70th coupe and last August I bought a 2011 GS convertible. And we are very happy to own these cars.

Andreas

If I remember correctly, I started to really notice them in high school. 1960, but fell in love with them in 1863 with the first mid-year. I got my first one in 1968. A '66 BB 427/425 roadster. Own or even drive a mid-year BB roadster and you are hooked for life.
I was in the Navy and by parents moved from Chicago to the Tampa Bay area in Florida. Came home on leave and found the car sitting in the garage. Nice home coming present.
I now have an '07. I have owned every generation except the C1 and C7. I plan to have a C7 before I cannot drive them anymore. Doubt I will see a C1.

WOW! You waited 105 years!!!

That's gotta be a record. Which side were you on Yankees, or Rebels?

Put two kids through college, one with a masters degree, waited until both self sufficient, paid off the house, and put the dough piling up towards my ultimate car. I never thought a Vette was even in the picture. I walk by a Chevy dealership every day and see the Vettes lined up, starting at $65+ K. I have always bought American - every car.

But now I find I'm looking at Nissan G37, Infinity 370Z, Lexus, and BMW M3. I test drive the 370Z and thought it was a wind up whiney toy, with seat that pinch's my asses. BMW didn't have any used M3's so I try a 535i, and it has no balls. I didn't make it to the Nissan dealership before seeing a 2011 Black Vette on the street in front of a dealership.

A motor head friend who came with me says - "Why not try the Vette". I tell him "You're joking, they are way out of my price range, but I have always dreamed of owning one". He says "They are the most affordable Sports car and higher caliber than anything you have looked at so far".

My record for buying American, remains in tact. As soon as I nailed the throttle and took the first S Bend I was hooked. I drove it 1400 miles home from Vacation. And loving every minute of the last four months of ownership!

After getting married, raising 2 children, paying tuitions, paying for the kids cars and auto insurance, and 1 wedding it was time for us to enjoy ourselves. Bought a new '04 at age 49.

I was pretty lucky, I didn't wait too long, as I got my first Corvette (an 84) when I was 21. I only had it a few months though, and then I had a long 13 year wait to get my second one (a 98 this time) I kept the 98 for 9 years and traded it for my C6 last year. So I've had it pretty good, and will never be without a Corvette for the rest of my life.

28 years and 6 days old when I bought my 09' Z06 a few weeks ago. I kicked around the idea of getting a new car for about 3 weeks before I bought one.

I already have a truck, boat and dirt bike, so the only logical choice was getting another sportscar.
