Emblem Paint

If I wanted to touch up the red and white paint on the nose and gas door emblems on my 70, what would recommendations be for paint? Is there some out there that matches the original well? I assume it is gloss. Thanks.

I used Testors model paint available at Michael's Craft Stores. I used Gloss White, Gloss Red and Maroon and Gloss Black. You will have to mix in some white or black into the red/maroon to match the existing color.

Thanks Fran. My red is in good shape, but the white flaking. I will start there. Yours looks great.

One of the model paint makers has an Insignia Red that is a perfect match.

I used "Testors" also. Don't laugh-I used a toothpick to apply the paint!

I also had good luck with model paint. Somewhere in the forums is a post about this, and one of the members used paint which you bake on - turned out awesome.

Here is the nose emblem from our '77. Still needed a little clean up in the after photo, but much better than the AZ sun faded version :)

I also used Testors acrylic model paint to touch up my emblems on my '71. I had to redo the black, white and red as the paint had completely worn off. After some experimentation I found that a toothpick was the best method to get the paint to flow into the nooks and crannies (particularly the areas that are painted red).

Looks great AdamMeh...I will do a search. Also seems like a toothpick is the ticket.

I used Testors Model Master, white, black and insignia red. I am pretty sure I found those recommendations on this site somewhere. The insignia red is sort of flat but when you shoot clear coat over it it comes out pretty good. In my case I had to paint the gas tank door also as my original had a broken hinge and had to be replaced. I stripped everything off on both door and emblem with aircraft stripper then used Testors as stated on the emblem and I dont recall the brand of the Silverstone Silver for the door but it was a good match. Actually with full disclosure my wife painted the emblem. It sure helps having an artistic person around.

There are several threads on this forum about this topic and is what I used as a reference to paint my hood emblem. In fact, the best tip was to use a toothpick to apply the paint. Testors is pretty sticky and when applying it looked like it collected in one spot, but it did spread evenly and looks great.
