air conditioning pressure range

92 still using freon. What should be the proper pressure range on the low side?

I was looking at my PCM data for a high idle issue and the data log program had the AC pressure at 112 psi with the air on. Not sure that helps.

AC on for 5 minutes to normalize system, engine @ 1500 rpm = 28 to 32#.

thats got to be for 134. Mine compressor was kicking in and out due to low pressure at 40psi on the low side.

Are you sure it's cycling off from low pressure? The cycling switch should open at 25 psi. Maybe the switch is the problem.

Certified big 3 tech, licensed AC tech, have the tee shirt.

You have another issue.

looks like im going to have to look deaper into the problem. As soon as i got up over 40 psi it quit kicking in and out and stayed running and I have cold air now. Pressure shows 43lbs on my guage. Its a cheap china guage though so maybe its just junk. When left idle overnight what should the pressure equalize out to? Churchkey im not doubting your expertise. Opinions like your qualified one is what im looking for here and i thank you.

Here's a simple test that costs nothing.

1. Remove the connector from the low pressure cycling switch
2. Install a jumper in the connector to simulate a closed switch
3. Run the A/C and see if it still shuts off at 40 psi

If it shuts off you have a problem elsewhere. If it continues to run, the switch is suspect.

problem with that is its working right now and i really dont want to blead off any freon to get it back down to 40psi.

Lloyd Smale 08-03-2014 08:00 AM

sat overnight and the pressure equalized out at 55psi. I was told by another ac guy that it should be 70-90. Is this correct?
