Dealer says only store in heated garage

He said since the tires are so soft storing in cold to freezing garage will wreak havoc on tires. Anyone agree or disagree?

Dealer is an idiot.

What is up with these dealers. Was the C7 training that horrible? So many are clueless.

KenHorse 07-31-2014 08:38 PM

Agree with the consensus....

AFVETTE 07-31-2014 08:40 PM

Are these the same tires that can't be driven in temps below 20 degrees for fear of cracking:lol:

Didn't GM conduct any COLD weather testing of the Stingray? I'm sure I've seem photo's of such tests. I'm sure they didn't change tires.

Thx guys. Maybe he was thinking if not moved could create perm flat spot?

JCar 07-31-2014 08:49 PM

I've not been in a position to let a car sit inside all winter myself, but a friend of mine adds some extra pressure to each tire and parks his Z06 with the tires on plywood. He says it helps reduce flat spotting.

Obviously a car stored in a constant environment will fair better than one left to various climate extremes.

You left out the part about them exploding with the force of a dozen supernovas

I can't blame the dealer (much) for this. GM issued the bulletin 13-03-10-001A. It contains warnings around tires for driving (below 40) and cracking (below 20). It says it its below 20, don't move the vehicle. It doesn't say you can't store the vehicle in the garage, but as its lengthy, I could see how a less attentive dealer could misinterpret "move" from "store".

You can chose to ignore GM's warning about the tires in the cold, but don't fault the dealer for believing what the general is telling them.

That said, the heated garage thing isn't part of the bulletin, not sure if your garage is attached to the house and if it ever gets below 20, but if so, according to GM, you shouldn't move the car with those tires. Plenty of people have without issues.

Mine will be sitting outside all winter, with a cover on it and it will get snowed on too.Never hurt my c5's over the past 12 years.

Tire Guy 07-31-2014 09:37 PM

Put it up on blocks and put the tires in your bedroom. Ha!

What an idiot.

Mdm23 07-31-2014 09:39 PM

Many of these salesman seem to be getting dumber by the day.
