295/40-18 with 285/35-18?
 

howdy there!

i'm looking at swapping out my Nitto INVOs for something grippier & taller on my 2000 FRC. these tires do pretty good for mostly street driving with some spirited runs thrown in, but with mid-500s to the ground, it's easy to overpower them & i'm also sick of the short-tire look. that & the shorter height makes it a pain worrying about scraping everywhere.

i've currently got 265/35-18 (25.3") front & 295/35-18 (26.0") rear on 18x9.5 & 18x10.5 wheels.

i was looking at the NT05s to keep from going with R-comps (which R888s would be my first choice in 275 & 305/35-18s) and was considering doing the 295/40-18 rear (27.2"). to keep the ABS happy, it looks like i'll need 285/35-18 (25.9") fronts.

i'm just looking for feedback from guys running a tire that wide up front on a regular basis as to how it handles. there was definitely a bit more steering resistance going from the 245s to 265s. i'm guessing i can expect a little more when jumping up another 3/4" in width, but is it a handfull to drive around town? i definitely don't mind the stronger steering feedback when mountain carving or on the road course, but sadly, i'll admit that most of the miles on my car are from taking road trips or just driving around town because it still gets almost 2x the gas mileage of my truck.

questions, comments, suggestions?

or maybe i could do a quick test drive swapping my current fronts & rears with TC off to get a relative feel for it...
