FI is not for track days

Since I plan on doing a lot more track days/HPDE I think I am going to de-mod my car. 700+ rwhp is not needed. The torque curve is crazy and makes driving the car smooth and consistent difficult, not to mention the extreme coolant and oil temps. So wondering if I am better off selling the complete engine or just the SC parts. I figure I can use the money collected to rebuild the engine back to NA and maybe even have some left over for suspension parts. But if I sell complete I will build a ls7 forged block. Has anyone here taken the FI car back to NA? Should I be looking for .50 cents on the dollar or more? I will take video of it running along with dyno numbers, tune, etc.

It is a 06 stock bottom end ls2. Parts I will be selling:

PC D1SC w/ 2 pulleys, stock 4.5" 6 rib and 3.90 8 rib. This comes with PC head unit bracket and tensioner. PC IC w/ Big Red BOV welded to it.
DP big mouth air filter kit
Cartek flip drive. Will include all belts and C5 AC bracket.
Boost a pump
ECS stage 1 fuel kit
DP blower cam (have specs at home)
IW OD 10 rib crank pulley

May also sell alky control kit but may want it for another project.

If you end up parting out, I would be interested in the flip drive and possibly the ECS fuel system.

As for the motor... personally I would hold onto the LS2 and do H/C/I. Make sure you get a cam that has a nice range and not just for high HP. You want the torque to help you get out of turns and a high winding cam will just leave you asking for more. I miss my HCI set up... predictable coming out of turns and enough straight line speed to still be fun.

Dont see the problem actually...

We run a 1000whp (408/YSI) C5Z at several track days a year with no problems at all....

I would leave it as is, upgrade your exhaust valves so they can take the beating and learn to drive it at that power level. A fast car is a hell of a lot of fun on a fast track.

I'm sure there are far better drivers that can do better with a FI car, but it really isn't meant for it. It would be nice to keep the vette as is and buy a track only car but I am running out of room for cars.

notice any handling issues with the
added weight of the blower on the road course?

I've thought the same. If I sell complete it comes with gmpp ls3 heads done by AES w/ BT vavle train kit and morel lifters and ls3 intake.

Anyone care to throw about some pricing ranges?

edge04 08-27-2014 09:21 PM

got a few PM's asking about prices. Sorry should have been clear earlier. I don't have prices yet as not sure what direction I am going yet. I also have at least 4 more HPDE's left before season end.

Open to offers but they would have to be really good. Thanks

I have fun at the track with 610/575 to the wheels and soon to be close to 700rwhp. Its all in the setup, tune and components. Keeping the car cool takes some ingenuity and creativity but its not too bad. Just get the biggest coolers possible for everything. And I track with an auto too.

I ended up buying a separate car for HPDE, a C6-Z.
I kept my C5 FI setup for grudge racing and screwing around on the street.
I have -never- seen a FI Corvette beat a NA combo on the road course.
Charging a corner means nothing if a Miata is right behind you in every corner.
Cooling problems. Pfft - no thanks.

I loved my forged n/a high compression LS6 that I built a few years ago for road racing. The instant throttle response, a 7200rpm redline and yeah it was easier to keep cool. With that being said, Ive had no issues running the entire 15-20min sessions on track days with my supercharged LS3. As i said before, it comes down to the setup. Theres been sessions where I lap a whole group and others where Ive had some dang good battles or got lapped myself. Look at the Australian Supercar Series. Those are all supercharged v8's road racing.

To be honest, not really.

And that is with the added weight of not only the blower system but a iron block.

With the addition of coil overs and heavy rate sway bars and being corner weighted with proper alignment it drives really really nice.

Im sure with stock suspension it would feel a little different.

the more I think about it the more I think the best option would be a track specific car. Chances are I would have to sell one and really don't want to but it would be so much easier. No rim/tire changes, brake changes before race.

track specific cars can be found fairly cheap....especially at my driving level.

still interested in opinions and facts are what you are driving and how. thanks

C5Z or FRC rollers make the perfect track cars.. "low" budget and will rip when properly motivited.

If I got a mulligan I wouldn't have spent around ~60K on a Z (including safety accouterments such as ported cylinder heads, racing seat, et al) - I would buy something track specific.

How much for the flip drive?

seung012 08-31-2014 03:26 AM

I think FI works fine as long as it is done properly.

I have a East Coast Supercharging 1500 Kit @ 675WHP. Car ran great at NJMP without any issues. Full footage below!
