650 HP street friendly?
 

Just Have A C7 On order, But The Z06 Has Got My Attention, A little, I know 460 hp is pretty fun, but at times you may wish it were more, at other times Can barely keep from spinning out, So I'm wondering if 650 is overkill for normal use, especially since I want a manual. I like the looks and power of the z06, but It would likely cost me 30k to 40k more, not sure if it would be worth it?

Its all about your right foot and how responsible you are going to be with the vehicle. I don't need 650HP anymore than you need 460HP; no body does on the street. In my case, it's a Want not a Need. I love Corvettes, but to keep you out of trouble, you need to respect them as well.

Truthfully, it is overkill. But I am helpless to resist it...

I did a180 in the middle of the highway when I first purchased my c6 (with mods already on it), and it took a little getting used to. Definitely planning to hit up the spring mountain course soon, and in general, just taking it easy for normal everyday driving. I will say that cold, wet, or rainy days I leave my cars in the stables and my truck is the vehicle of choice - no need to risk it with the extra horsepower in even trickier conditions.

Isn't this why you have traction control? It's a federal law now, all our cars are gaining weight and costing more for this system for people that spin out on public roads.

Don't know why it wouldn't be street friendly. The 638 hp of my ZR1 has been street friendly.

Yea always, but with this power it won't matter a whole lot IMO

On the c6 I mentioned above, I changed the tires to Michelin pilot sport shortly after that above mentioned incident and never had another problem. Traction warning and / or active handling would come on very occasionally, so I know it was doing it's job but better tires sure help

Traction control cuts down on the tire spinning, but does not eliminate it. Even with the traction control on, my Z06 will spin the tires to 90 MPH in second gear.

The right foot is the only sure fire way to control traction.

Stability control(not the same thing as traction control) helps you to keep from "spinning out" but can not override the laws of physics.

Yes, I should have said stability not traction control. In either case, maintaining traction is paramount.

One can easily spin out in a 100hp car as well. No silver bullet here.

650 hp / 650 tq is nothin'

It's not the Hp that is you have to worry about it's the TORQUE, finding traction for 650lb/ft is the biggest challenge for the traction control which I am certain can NEVER be fully turned of ....This is no different though than the P1, LaFerrari , and 918
The most dangerous thing on this car is not the speed or acceleration it's having the back come around especially on sporty COLD tires
650hp ain't that unheard of these days but 650lb/ft on RWD only is VERY rare

It's all in the right foot and brain..be stupid and it'll hurt you be smart and it's as tame any other car.

this is true...it is the torque that can get you in trouble...go look at the ZR1 forum or C6 forced induction forum to get a better idea of what some people are running (e.g 850 and up )

If you drive like an idiot, 650 HP/TQ is not street friendly. If on the other hand, you drive sensibly, leave the traction control, active handling nannies hooked up and ROLL into the throttle NOT in congested 45 MPH gridlock areas etc, you can have a lot of fun in a safe manner. What you don't want to do, is pull a stunt like Paul Walker and his buddy did out in Calif with that Porsche GT, or you're likely to wind up like they did in a nice big ball of fire.
