Very interesting article.
It makes me wonder where GM would be if it wasn't for Duntov's ideas for the future.

The article has it right; it was 61 years ago. I guess none of us want to admit how old we really are!

One hell of a lot of insight when you consider it was written in 1953!
What else carried his name besides a cam?

He had a set of cylinder heads that carried his name as well, but that was before his association with Chevrolet. The heads were a hemi-head, OHV retrofit for the flathead Ford. The conversion was called ARDUN, and was popular with hotrodders of the day. They are actually casting them again for the retro-rodding market. The name ARDUN, was from a shortened Arkus Duntov. He designed the heads for Ford, to increase the horsepower and reliability of some garbage trucks that Ford was trying to sell in England.

Wow. Thanks for posting that up. That letter became a lightening rod for the Chevy small block. Kudoos to Duntov! He was certainly thinking ahead and the style in his letter captured that "sell more cars" on Monday based on winning on Sunday in his successful attempt convincing Oiley to go down that performance road.

Again, I never knew how his initial involvement got it start. And yes, as a young kid I remember local older "kids" hot rodding and referring to the ARDUN head.

Thanks again for posting up Beggars!

Regards,

Jim

Mr Duntov, was a heck of an engineer, and probably the only reason we have corvettes today[yes there were others, but]

too true. Too bad most of his ideas were a corporate fight to get implemented. Of course I'm glad he fought the split window...that's what kept them rare.

it's too bad he couldn't get this car built (for production):

i still think this is the coolest corvette ever...would like to have seen what it would have looked like with a top on it for production!!!
