Cleaning sealant off of the windshield
I have a 1977 corvette I am rebuilding, and I have the original windshield out in replacing the whole birdcage. I want to clean the original sealant off without affecting the shatterproof laminate. I plan on using plastic razor blades to remove the bulk of the sealant, but is there a chemical (even rubbing alcohol) that I can use to clean off the small traces without affecting the integrity of the windshield?
Thanks, Joel |
Not "sure" about the chemical. But I can tell you what worked for me.
Using plastic to take the butol off is a good idea. That stuff will gum up everything and anything. After I did remove the huge stuff I used a wooden paint stir stick to get most of the littler stuff off and then the product "Goo Gone" to wipe it clean. I didn't notice any effect of the laminate or glass. Be patient. It is a pain in the ... It takes way too long and it's tedious. Good luck. |
