Hatch or trunk?

I see c5s with trunks and hatchbacks. Which was more common? Was it a special model that had the hatch? Im looking to upgrade from a c4 to a c5 and would love to find myself a hatchback instead of a trunk. In white. With a 6 speed. In case you were wondering :)

A C5 Coupe like mine is the only one with a hatch back

Both Z06 and FRC ( Fixed roof coupe a non Z06 )have a trunk, as does the Convertible ( Vert )

My C5 coupe ( hatchback )( Has 2 removable tops [one body colored and one clear but tinted ) unlike the Z06 and the FRC

Fixed roof ( FRC )and Z06 .. note the rear window and the trunk lid

C5 convertibles have a rear lid which would be considered a "trunk" even though the storage area is accessible from the seating area. For that matter, coupes (hatchbacks) and the FRC (Fixed Roof Coupe) also have access to the rear storage area from the seating area.

The "coupe" has the hatchback rear lid that includes a sloping rear window. The Fixed Roof Coupe has only a "trunk lid".

All Z06's are Fixed Roof Coupes and do not have a hatchback-style rear opening. About 10% of all 2001-2004 C5's were Z06's. There was a Fixed Roof Coupe in 1999 (12% of production) and 2000 (only 6% of production.

All Fixed Roof Coupes and all Z06's had 6-speed manual transmissions. Coupes and convertibles were available with either a 6-speed or a 4-speed automatic.

Why does it matter what you call it?

I would think that if he wanted a hatch back, and someone had a White C5 FRC, and flew down to buy it, would be disappointed not knowing the difference, finding a white FRC without the hatchback he wants. ( obviously he did not know the difference when he came here to ask a good question ) So what you call it is important to someone who doesn't know the difference..

If you want the "hatch" then you will be shopping for a C5 Coupe...not to be confulsed w the Hardtop/FRC/Z06 bodystyle. Happy vette shopping!

Mr. Evil, is that original paint on your car, (awesome)

In all C5's, the storage area in the back are about the same. With the coupe, you'll have a little bit of extra height at the glass, and the convertible will have less space when you put the top down.

C5's really have more cargo space than most people would anticipate. When the c5 was designed, it was mandatory that the trunk be big enough to fit 2 full sized golf bags with the convertible top stowed - something that the C4 is unable to do.

the MCM hood paint is 13 years old, the rear flared quarters are a few months old ( my last project ). Roof, front fenders, front and rear fascia, doors are all original, rocker panels with my molded in brake ducts are 13 years old. Car is 14 years old with 100,000 miles.. the paint has been maintained solely by Me and Sal Zaino's Products.
Thank you for the kind words... the car still feel new to me.. runs great and get so many compliments when I go out , it is embarrassing, I can get stuck at a gas station for 45 minutes, or at a the bank or the grocery store... At the gym I work out looking through the window to see people point, looking in.. taking pictures next to it etc... it never gets old...... and I take it almost everywhere... There are very few places I wont take it.. I park smart, or I don't park at all.. if I cant get a good spot, I wont park.. being retired gives me lots of latitude in going anywhere... OH and BTW there are lots of cars on this forum that make my car look fairly average in comparison.. People react to a clean car.. MY car is clean.. but in comparison.. Patches car, make mine look like something you would find behind the dumpster in a bad neighborhood.

Thanks for all the great info! So i guess my best shot at a coupe (hatchback) is going to be a 1999 or a 2000 since the frc numbers were pretty low those years. Did all years of the c5 have the option to be a coupe? 97-05 is the c5 span right?

octaneforce 01-27-2015 07:24 PM

Did a little more reading. And the first year of the c5 (97) only a coupe was offered. I want a white 97 that some old guy stopped caring about and will sell to me far below market value. Haha!

Best of luck finding the C5 that is right for you. Be patient, there are lots of them for sale and in many cases at good deals.
