nitto nt05 on the rear only?
Anyone run nitto on the back and factory tire on the front--any driving problems? Thx:cheers:

Should not have any issues as long as the tire size is correct. I ran NT05s for about a year and upgraded to R888. While NT05 is a lot nicer than the stock runcraps, I'd say they are still not even half as nice as the 8s

If you only use 70-80% of the handling capability of the car (a high level for street driving) then they should be OK. Use caution in rain storms. If you are balls to the wall street driver or consider road circuit type driving then the mix/match is not a good thing.
I agree with the Ruski Driver re NT-05's vs R888's, which are street legal track tires. whereas the NT-05's are trackable street tires. The M PSS have about 0.1 G more grip than the NT-05's and the tread will last 2-3X longer. |

My factory's have the NT05R's on the back..... NOT the regular NT05's. It's a drag radial, it's meant to go straight. At 20psi going 170+ it's a little unstable, but nothing uncontrollable or scary in any way shape or form... I like em and it's the ONLY 19in tire that lets my car put some power down. I still spin with em, but it's night and day difference from my previous 345's I had on the rear. My old 345's wouldn't hold
Power at all, but they did well threw corners.... Until I push the pedal down too get going. There's a sacrifice in everything. Are you hitting corners hard all the time, or are you going straight mainly? |
Only 20psi? So in order to gain that traction advantage, the tire pressure has to be dropped by 30%! No wonder there are stability issues at high speed....
What if you run the 30psi or so, would it then be pretty solid? Realizing it wouldn't be ideal for drag strip runs, but is the drop off linear, or is it notable? Have you tried it? |

That was for an race event. That's nothing different than any other tire (Drag Radial) that's done at an event. At standard pressures with the tire warm, I could/can WOT shift to where before, I couldn't do it going into 3rd without blowing the tires off, on a good surface. Have you already purchased the NT-05s? If not, then you may want to consider some other choices. I had a set of NT-05s on my car, and was very disappointed with the overall grip level. It was very easy to lose the rear end with any heavy throttle input. I will never buy them again. By comparison, Bridgestone RE-11s (also a "200" treadwear tire) have much better grip.

I had NT05R's in my Heads/cam/intake SS Camaro and they hooked great. They do turn into ice skates in rain but with nannies on and sensible driving your fine. I just ordered a set for the Z and should have em installed Monday. I will chime in with how they do on a heads/cam Z. Right now I can break em loose doing 70-80 with Invos and absolutely no thread left.
How are you guys getting the cars aligned for thread wear? Stock Z or Grand Sport? |

I have Bridgestone RE-11's on the rear. I haven't had them long and it's hard to compare an old NT05(not the R) to a new RE-11. I never had a problem in blowing the rears with the NTO5's, even in stock form. I have General UHP's on the front.
I also have a set of NTO5R's mounted on another set of stock rims. For keeping the stock look they do pretty good. You're not going to come out of the hole with a lot of RPM's, but there is no wheel hop in 2nd and they will also hold my car in 2nd. I only did a little fish tailing in 2nd on one run....the rest were straight. |
