Driver SEAT protection available? To prevent tears out

I just bought a 3LZ Z06 A8 and have let a few people jump in the car to rev her up. Watching some bigger than other jump in and out worry about TEARING of outside lip on seat bolster. Do ANY Vendors make a nice velcro pad or something to protect that special spot which gets ripped always over time in our car? Be a good shark tank invention if not made effectively ;o)

Say a wrap or piece that tucks over

Ttt...Any info......I remember ordering these velcro leatherettes that wrapped around door handle etc. Forgot company but similar concept.

Teach people how to get in and out of the car. Butt in, once in, swing the legs. Will save the bolster

I use a $30 "Aires Seat Defender" for around town use where I don't care about impressing people, they come off or on in 5 secs with one pull....at 13000 mile my seats look brand new....

Disclaimer: I know the purists think it's ugly, fine with me......but my seats will show no wear when I trade in next year.....

Gray interior seat and have a folded gray bath towel on the seat bottom overlapping the lip you speak of.

Prevents the wear (have used these on other cars) and surprisingly, you do not notice them if you glance into the car (seat back is uncoved. Inexpensive, easily removed, and washable.

Works well for me.

:iagree: I always coach people to back up to the seat, sit down, then lift one foot in at the time watching each shoe carefully so as not to hit the door panel. I'm anal, I know... and now so does everyone else. :D

Doesn't this restrict side impact air bag operation? Compromising your safety is a poor tradeoff for protecting your upholstery.

No it does not.....it is not fastened to the seat, just a sheet with open sides held there by gravity. Amazing what problems some can come up with here....

:iagree: Close to 60K on my 2005 an the seats looked new. 10K on my C7 and not even any wrinkling on the bolster.

I use to work as a program manager for a seating supplier. Side bag deployment is impacted by many factors. The major ones are the seam design and seat material specification. During seat development, deployments are filmed by high speed camera. Time for deployment and the fill of the bag are analyzed to insure they meet specification. I would be very surprised if the slip covers did not impact fill time and deployment pattern. Personally, I would stay away from any type of slip cover no mater how loose fitting.

The above is my personnel opinion. It is not necessarily the opinion of my past or present employers.

Boiler_81:

Thanks for your input. The post by one other CF member just raised my concern and awareness and his post was a legitimate post and concern.

I had an order pending at Amazon for one of these, but overall safety is a concern, and really I never thought about the side airbags until post #8 by Ron and your post #11. Subsequently, I have cancelled the order just now.

I really think that it is amazing what other CF members come up with here on the CF as their posts can be very helpful, despite what others may think.

Thanks again.

Wouldn't matter if mine were a base coup, Z51 (she is), or ZO6. No one jumps in to 'rev' her up, and only people I invite to do so may enter. I'm not worried about wear from high numbers of lookyloo's.

 Good decision based on a members real life experience not the emotional one of the Op who bought these ugly covers.

As noted by someone with expertise in this matter you might be wrong. Yes - it can happen....................

beatsworkin 05-05-2015 02:31 PM

why do you want to protect your seats for the next buyer? Let them put the seat covers on.
