Rebuilt LT1 on eBay.....?

Anyone know this car....? I would think the fact that it was rebuilt after the original 70 was rolled and the running gear moved to a 71 as well as the frame being painted grey would make it stand out. No location listed in the ad, I have asked about location but no response yet. Looks like it's listed with no reserve....Wonder what the final bid will be...Any guesses....?

Sounds like he did a lot of work to create a non-matching numbers car.

Wee 05-04-2015 11:07 PM

If the car was done right and has no hidden issues, the non-numbers matching doesn't bother me if the winning bid stays close to where it is now.....If it was driving distance and a solid car I would offer 15 and be glad to get it at that price....But unless I had the car inspected I would not even bid on it and time is running out.

...frame painted grey to really make it pop...how many other personal decisions did the current owner make to customize the car?

So, is that all that matters?

Hi,
The current bid ($13,000) is about 20% of the value of a really nicely restored 70 LT-! coupe.
That's probably just about right for this car
I'm curious what vin tag is on the a-pillar and how it got there?
Regards,
Alan

Hi i,
It matters when you begin by describing the car as a 1970 LT-! coupe! And "The real deal".

Alan

It's a driver. Interesting how the seller fully discloses the origin of the drive train, history behind this car. Painting the frame grey doesn't do anything for me, I''d probably paint over it, return to black.

As to what it sells for, depends on what a buyer will pay for a driver, not a collectible. Seems foolish to bid this early, most will wait for the last minutes to avoid driving the bids up. See where this goes.

Alan, I agree with you on both counts. Shouldn't be listed as a 70 "real deal" LT-1. It isn't. It's now an NOM 71 LT-1 clone. Aside from that, if he did the resto right, the car shold be a blast to drive and is about at the right price. I'd want to see it in person though AND DRIVE IT FIRST. If you want to drive it to death, could be a good buy. I don't like the grey frame, but to each their own.

As for the VIN tag, I presume that he left the one from the 71 donor. That's what it's titles as and it avoids him having to title it as salvage.

Not a bad looking ride. It is what it is. Wonder where it is located. I must have overlooked location.

qwank 05-05-2015 10:51 AM

I say it's worth no more than $20K

:iagree:
It's a used 71 with a replacement engine.

Wee 05-05-2015 12:16 PM

I say it's a nice looking clone....I'm not crazy about the grey frame, but it is different...Too bad he didn't paint it the same color as the car.

Car is located in Wadsworth OH....Anybody close and can take a look at it for me....? I'm going to call and talk to the guy here in about 30 minutes....Anything I need to ask that jumps out at anyone....?

That's a good looking car thats been restored. I'm guessing he wants more then $20K though.

See what he would want to end the auction early.

Just got off the phone with the guy....Nice guy and would allow me to make the trip up after the bidding was over to inspecting the car in person before paying with paypal.....Now for the kicker, he mentioned he wasn't sure the bidding would even go high enough that he would sell it....I told him he didn't have a reserve or that the reserve was already met....He asked what the bid was and said it would take way more than that.

Not sure how the guy will handle it with ebay now....?

So much for my driver clone LT1 for around 15k.

Interesting....and the bidding started at $200. I was surprised to see no reserve.

ddawson 05-05-2015 01:33 PM

Doesn't surprise me. Many people screw that up. He can cancel it.

I live about 15 minutes from Wadsworth. If you are serious about the car, let me know and I can go over and take some additional pictures and check over any areas that concern you.

The end bid may be an indicator of what price the market will pay for a 71 NOM with an LT1 engine. Depends a bit on timing as well, one set of bids is a bit thin to draw conclusions from... I'll bet the fellow is in pretty deep, may not be willing to take that much of a hit.

qwank 05-05-2015 02:03 PM

he probably wants $50K+ for it
