Any Way to Tell if F55 Magnetic Shocks are Bad with a Tech 2?

I have a 2003 coupe with the F55 magnetic ride; seems to be riding a lot harsher lately so wondering if the magnetic shocks might be bad. I picked up a new Tech 2 a few weeks ago, does anybody know if it can diagnose if the shocks are good or bad? Checked for codes and nothing there.

Thanks :flag:

Try this path and see if it works. . .

RF Damper Actuator – Chassis > Electronic Suspension Control > Special Functions > Damper Actuator Test

I vaguely remember someone posting something about disconnecting the battery to "wake" their F55 system up... I'm sorry I don't recall exactly how everything related... I just remember something like that. Might be worth a try.

I would just look at them to see if they were leaking. but I don't have a tech II. Interested to know what you find though.

The path on mine was worded a bit different but I did get to RTD-Spec Functions>shock solenoid test. When I turned them on they all went to 95% and when I hit the cycle button they all cycled ok and no DTC's were thrown so it looks like at least the shock solenoids are working.

Have you checked all 4 for leaking (Post #5)???

Have you cycled the setting dial on the center console back and forth to see if perhaps it was sticking in SPORT mode when you thought you had selected TOUR mode???

No, just getting to that, wanted to post the Tech 2 info while it was fresh in my head. Yes, I did cycle the switch and I also used the Tech 2 to check it and it seemed good.

Looks like the LR and RF might be leaking.

If any are in fact leaking they cannot possibly be working as designed.

I know...was hoping I wouldn't have to replace them as much as they cost. :(

I'm beginning to agree, really wanted to stay with the F55's but don't want to shell out that much money to replace them either. That's close to 15-20% the value of the car now. I guess I'll search on here tomorrow while I'm at work for other options.

What are you going to go with? C6 Z51's? Might be hitting you up in the near future for the F55 delete if you don't mind?

My car has gotten a bit past stock :toetap: and the springs needed to be changed as well as the sways. Springs are C5 Z06 and sways are C6Z06. Spring rates of the C5 Z are close to those of the C6 Z and C6 springs cannot be installed in a C5.

Thanks. Yes, I've modified mine a bit as well, I put the C6 Z51 sways on mine and a reinforced tunnel plate. I think I'll check into/price the C6 z51 shocks for mine. Thanks again for your help.

Well, at least the electronics aren't the problem. Now on to the mechanical part of it.

Went ahead and put C6Z06 shocks on mine today. The delete info you provided and the Tech 2 worked great getting rid of the F55 option....thanks. Rides a lot better now, taking it over to Beaumont, TX tomorrow for a show, so that should be a good test for it.

I agree the shocks aren't worth the cost. You said you have the instructions on how to remove the F55 RPO. Care to share, I'm lost.
