1/4 time advise
Hello first time poster here and first time corvette owner needing some opinions and advise on my car. and first time at a drag strip ever.
cars a 94 stock 200Kmile motor rebuild transmission with red alto bands, heavy duty clutch packs, beast sun shell, hd2 shift kit, and yank 3K stall. stock 3.07 rear end with slipping positrack (when it was hot one 1 tire would spin.) K&N filter cut lid 160d thermostat pcm4less tune 2yo Drag radials at 17psi at the track race weight was 3800lbs me+ half tank of gas (im a fat ass) working on it. track was redding drag strip in ca 490 elevation and 86 degrees at 10pm best run of the night i have the time slip and a video thanks in advance for help and opinions. iv posted on other sites just looking for the most advise i can get sorry if you seen this before. flashing converter off idle small burn out and driving around the water. water temp was 170 oil was 175. gave me this time 13.854 http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/280...537/0YOxVe.jpg http://vid228.photobucket.com/albums...5/DSCF3057.mp4 |
96collector is a successful bracket-racer, who campaigns a 4th-generation Corvette that he drives to & from the strip https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...collector.html not only that, but I have found him friendly, and easy to speak with in the past |
I ran a 93 for 10 years...it had an aftermarket 85mm throttle body, straight pipes back to stock mufflers with no cats and a chip for the fans to come on at 190 with a 160* thermostat...I ran 315x35x17 Nitto DR's at 18 to 22 lbs. depending on track conditions...I had a 3500 stall converter and launched at 1800rpm...
My average time was 13.40's in the summer and 13.30's in the winter...all time best was 13.12 on a cold winter day...I always raced it in 3rd gear...oh yeah, I had an aftermarket Dana 44 diff. for strength and 3:73 gears...I did have the K&N cut lid as well... I typically left the line at 182* coolant temp... My advice without seeing your time slip is to use as much rear tire pressure as possible without spinning...run in 3rd gear, not 4th...leave at an rpm as high as you can without pushing through the staging beams...the hardest hit on your DR's is to leave off idle...the higher rpm you leave at the softer the hit...seems backwards but it is not... I used my vette as my daily driver but also put 150 passes at the drag strip every year...I drove daily on the Nitto DR's...good luck.. This was the vette I raced... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...015_edited.jpg |
Sweet looking c4! Thanks for the advice about leaving a higher rpm the little research I did I thought leaving by flash in it would net best Et. I will try a higher rpm launch next time, I did have it in 3rd tho for every run. Ill be writing down this advice for use at the track next time thank you very much.
thought I had a picture of the timeslip posted maybe its not working 2.098 60foot 5.837 330foot 8.936 660foot 81.81mph 11.588 1000foot 13.854 1320foot 100.25 mph Thanks again for suggestions I am writing every one down to try next time. Lee |
