Does C7 have 4G WIFI?
 

I know many complain about the infotainment system in the C7. I understand GM dropped HD Radio. Did it ever have WIFI and does it have it now? Hopefully I can use my Classic ipod as I have over 3500 songs loaded onto it.

Your classic may have intermittent problems....it's written here somewhere by a GM'er that the classic power draw is a bit much. I yanked my classic and just burned the 4500 tunes collection to an SD 32 GB card. But try it and see. A classic connects via USB, not wifi.

And yes the 2015 has wifi but for the life of me I can't see how I would use it after the trial stops.

My wife surfs the web on her WiFi only IPad while I'm driving on long trips.

That makes sense. Is that more cost effective than using your phone as a hotspot?

Most smart phones have the ability to become a WiFi hot spot today. Why would anyone pay extra for it in the car when you can just use your phone?

I haven't been able to personally verify it, but Onstar claims better coverage than most cell carriers. As for cell phone hotspots, my plan has unlimited data from way back when, but if you want a hotspot, you must renegotiate the plan to a capped data per month plan.

I use my classic iPod all the time through bluetooth with no problems (2014 C7).

That's not the cars WIFI, that is you iPods WIFI. The OP asked if the car had WIFI.

My ipod Classic does not have Bluetooth nor do I plan to use it with WIFI. I guess my post was confusing as I was asking different questions in the same post. My Audi A6 has WIFI through T-Mobile and I do sometimes use it but it is usually only 3G so it's slower than my phone(also T-Mobile). I was wondering if the car had 4G WIFI capability to act as a hotspot.

What's the secret in transferring the music from an ipod to an SD card in order to keep all the playlists and albums just like they are on the ipod?

The service is handled by a carrier (AT&T) so they are not claiming better coverage. The signal from any tower will be the same regardless. What they claim is that the car has a higher power receiver/transmitter which should give you better reception. If you have AT&T, you can add the car as another line to a shared data plan.

Personally, I can tether on my unlimited plan using FoxFi on Android or my work phone. I tried out both the car and my phone at various spots and could not see a noticeable difference, though it was different carriers.

Technically you're right, but there are many reasons to use a car hotspot.

First, when I use my phone as a hotspot, it often makes calls terrible. It's an iPhone 6 on Verizon Wireless, so not some bad phone and network. It's probably worse when sharing over bluetooth. There are times when I have to disconnect the hotspot in order to have a conversation on the phone. Not good for anyone involved.

Secondly, using your phone as a hotspot chews up your battery quickly. My phone stays in my pocket all the time, so it's not plugged in and not charging. That's how I roll.

Third, I don't leave my hotspot on all the time, for security reasons and for battery life. So to share it in the car requires turning it on, and if something goes wrong I'm the technical guy in the house, so I have to drive and debug at the same time -- not cool. With the car wifi, it just works all the time. No fuss, no muss.

By the way, this experience I have is with my other car (an Audi A8), not my Stingray. My Stingray is a 2014, so the hotspot was not available. I have placed an order for a 2016 Z06, so I intend on using the wifi with that car though.

I use an iPod classic on my 2015- it works pretty well but sometimes can be a little buggy (sometimes after shutdown- system doesn't see it when I start back up)- unplugging and plugging back in makes it work fine again.

As others have mentioned- it does have 4gwifi.
