1973 corvette rear drum to disk brake conversion any1?
 

Hi, I'm kinda new to the corvette world. My dad has a 1973 t-tops for about ten years. Sitting in a garage. We finally decided to restore it. But I been looking but I guess not in the right place but any1 knows how to convert this thing to rear disk? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

All Corvettes from 65 on have had 4 wheel disc brakes. :willy:

None after 65 came with rear (or front) drums (and drums could only be ordered in 65 as a disk delete option).

The drum you may be seeing on the rear wheels is for the parking / emergency brake.

This is a photo of my 73 rear brakes. The center part that appears
to be a drum is where the parking brake shoes are located.
You can see that is part of the rotor for the disc brakes.

Thank you guys for the help. Here is a bit of background on the car. So first of all the car is in Costa Rica. I'm in New York at the moment. I drove the car a couple of times down there before my dad store it away. The car seems to had suffer quite a bit the worst was the interio, completely damage by carelessness, a couple of years in storage I told him to start fixing the car so he gave me the ok and I dismantle the interior everything is out. Then I order a corvette America catalog just to realize how expensive was going to be, so it went back to storage and that was back in 2005. So now I'm here in New York. I bought most of the interior. But once I started buying parts I got the corvette fever and now I want to give him something nice so I decided to spend some money on transmission, brakes, and engine also, the problem is I only have a couple of pics of the car right now and I haven't seen the car in years. I been asking my dad to go and take a look at a bunch of things and we talk yesterday and he said is drum in the back however he is old and probably got confuse. Still right now I'm not sure if it is a 350-427 or 454. I'm trying to get a mechanic down there that might be able to go with him and check on this things. But any help would be greatly appreciated and I want to restore it for him my dad but in the end I'm keeping this thing but I just want to be able to drive it once in a while and that it looks nice and that it won't brake down on one of those drives.

About 2hr drive from Atenas. But my dad does not speak English at all so, I mean if you really can stop by I will tell him just let me know a few days ahead so I let him know.

The car has rear drum brake.
 

Hi, so my dad went back to look again he says he lifted the car and that most probably at one point they change the rear brake rotors for drums. So please I need help how do I turn it back to disk brake.

I could see it happen (in a far away place) that without a ready supply of parts, an early rear was swapped in to replace a damaged one. Bats hit it on the head - pics needed

Like I said the car suffer a lot.
 

This car the last guy that owned said to me that he couldn't maintain the car anymore. He couldn't get parts down there. Remember this car is in Costa Rica by its license plate it got there some time in the early 80s. Imagine. So as soon as I can I will upload a pic I have to tell my dad to go again. But thanks for trying to help.

It would take more work to change it to drums than to fix it with disc parts. Unless he found an old set of trading arms that had drums on them you can't just put drums on without a lot of parts and mods. Pictures are needed.

I'm not putting drums!
 

I want to take those drums out and put the disk the way it was supposed to be.
